BALLYLANDERS

Our Senior footballers finished off their group in a dramatic finish in Kilfinane last Saturday against Galtee Gaels when Danny Frewen flicked the ball into the net deep in injury time to give us a one point victory. Gaels had started the brightest and had the opening two scores of the game and it took till the 12th minute for us to open our account after a great move saw Killian Meade brought down in the square and Steve Fox calmly slotted home from the penalty spot. Gaels had the game level a minute later but two quick fire points again from the booth of Steve Fox had us ahead again. Gaels were then reduced to 14 after a straight red and we capitalised to finish the half strong with three unanswered points all from Danny Frewen to leave it 1-05 to 0-3 at the break. Both teams traded scores at the start of the second half with Ciaran Kelly and another Danny Frewen effort kept the gap at five points but then on the 10th minute of the half we too were reduced to 14 as Steve Fox picked up a second yellow card. Gaels were now starting to find ways through our defence and were awarded a penalty themselves with 12 minutes remaining which beat Declan in goals to only leave one between us. Gaels added the next three points to put them two ahead heading into injury time before Danny Frewen’s late dramatic winner. This was a great performance from all the players and was very important to finish the group off with a win before next weekend’s relegation final against our other neighbours Galbally so it doesn’t get any bigger than that.
