BALLYBRICKEN/BOHERMORE GAA CLUB NOTES

Junior A: Our junior a hurlers lost out in the east final to neighbours Caherline on a score line of 2-15 to 4-17. The match was played in Cappamore with both the east title and the Brian Butler cup for the winners, in excellent conditions we started with the wind at our backs and flew out of the blocks leading by 3 after 5 minutes with Patrick Byrnes, Michael Martin and Dan McGuire all on target from play. We were playing some excellent hurling and converting our chances from distance as Niall Mitchell got 2 quick points and Daniel Owens after beating his man struck an excellent goal to the corner of the net to leave us leading by 1-7 to 0-3. Our opponents rallied in the final ten mins of the half and we were outscored 0-3 to 1-4 leaving us leading by three facing into a stiff breeze for the second period. The half began with both teams slotting points from frees before Daniel Owens doubled on a ball to the net re-establishing our lead to six points with ten minutes played, unfortunately that’s as good as it got for Bally, Caherline struck for two goals in a short period soon after thus taking the lead for the first time in the game by 1 with ten left on the clock. Conor McCarthy slotted another free and Michael Martin scored from play but with momentum going against us our opponent struck a fourth goal to leave them 7 ahead with five to play. The final few moments played out without us reducing the gap and Caherline ran out winners by 8 points, our lads attention now turns to the county quarter final next weekend.
