Athea U19 Boys
Athea 2-11 Shannon Gaels 0-9.
Athea got off to a bright start winning the throw-in and putting up a score of 1-2 to no reply in the opening minutes of the match on Tuesday August 10th. The opposition settled into the game with few close range frees but this didn’t disturb Athea. They drove on with the set tempo of the opening few minutes of winning turnovers high up the field and punishing the opposition leading the score at half-time 2-4 to 0-3.
Again, Athea began the second half as they did the first brightly, sending lovely direct balls into our inside forwards leading to some beautiful scores. Shannon Gaels purple patch followed this as they tried to claw back the lead. Credit is due to our backs and keeper for not letting them get a sniff of a goal. Overseeing this revival from our neighbours, Athea stood up again with tireless hard work-rate all over the field and added 2 big scores to win the game on a scoreline of;
This win puts us back in contention for quarter final place. A do or die clash again with Drom/Broadford next Tuesday 17th in Dromcolliher with a throw-in @7pm. All support is greatly appreciated by the team & management.
