Athea GAA Club Notes:

Athea GAA AGM:
Our Annual General Meeting will take place this Sunday January 14th at 7.30pm at Con Colbert Memorial Hall. All members are invited to attend & new members are most welcome.

Ireland Lights Up:
In conjunction with Operation Transformation, Athea GAA will host the Annual Ireland Lights Up Walks on Thursday evenings from 7pm – 8pm, running from January 11th – February 29th. Those who sign up & attend the full 8 week programme will be entered into a draw to win 1 of 30 free Healthy Ireland Goodie Bags.

Steps Challenge:
Athea GAA have signed up to the My Life challenge. If you have not done so and want a way to increase your steps during January/February why not join in the MyLife’s latest challenge in partnership with the GAA Community & Health. This challenge is in support of clubs and community members taking part to collectively hit 4,000KM for your club and be entered into the prize draw.
We are asking everyone to track a collective 4,000km over 5 weeks. To take part simply register on the My life app.
The challenge begins on January 8th and runs until 12th February.
The more participants we get, the quicker we will hit the target, so make sure that every step really does count!

Split the Bucket:
Congratulations to Zoe O’Shea, who was last week’s Split the Bucket winner, going home with the grand total of €329. The next draw will take place on Monday January 15th. Envelopes can be purchased at Dick Whites, Collins Shop, O’ Riordan’s Pharmacy, Athea Credit Union, Brown Joes, Batts, Bingo at Con Colbert Hall on Friday nights, Chinese Takeaway, Gables Grill and during events at Pairc na nGael. Thanks to everyone for your continued support.

Athea Bord na nÓg Annual Table Quiz:
Huge thanks to everyone who supported our Annual Table Quiz at Con Colbert Hall on December 28th, the first year in our new setting. Thanks to everyone who donated prizes for our raffle ( 31 Prizes in total), to Declan O’Carroll for providing the sound, to Athea Credit Union Limited for sponsoring first prize, to the Hall Committee for the use of the Hall, to all who helped out on the evening, and finally to Quiz Master Supreme John Hunt. The 2023 title went to ‘The Ice House’ Team from just over the border in Glin. Looking forward to 2024 already.

County Teams:
Huge congratulations and well done to Rebecca Collins who was selected on the County Minor Team. We wish her and her teammates well in the season ahead. Well done to the midfield pairing of Maeve Murphy and Grace Hunt who lined out with Limerick U16s in a challenge match against Clare last Saturday in UL.

The club would like to express its sincere sympathy to the family of Peter Stackpoole who died suddenly. May he rest in peace.
