AHANE GAA CLUB NOTES

Ahane OsKaRs Update

This week saw four of the seven Oskar casts film their movies! On Saturday the cast of Bridesmaids and The Snapper headed to their various locations to shoot their respective movies! All their hard work and rehearsals paid off as they were fantastic! On Sunday the casts of The Full Monty and Sister Act filmed their respective movies and again they set the bar high with their standard of acting! We are in for a treat on November 2nd when all the movies premier in the South Court Hotel. The Snapper and Sister Act also held their Fundraiser table quiz fundraiser on Friday night in Ahane Clubhouse and it was a great night for all in attendance.

Next weekend sees the casts of The Field, Misery, and Love/Hate put all their hard work and rehearsing into practice as they film their movies!

U6 – Hurling & Camogie

The U6 group had their end of year hurling and camogie training session last night after what has been a very busy, entertaining and positive start for all the boys and girls. We had almost 60 boys and girls at training last evening in Lisnagry NS.

The mentors would like to thank Adam Murrihy for coming along to present medals to all of the children and for his positive words of encouragement and good wishes to all the girls and boys.

Over the course of the U6 GAA year in Ahane, there has been plenty of great fun and friendly banter between all those taking part and it seems last night was no different —– although it is reported that the best fun for all the young children and indeed parents and supporters was the enjoyment trying to find shelter from the rain showers in the bike shed !!!!

A special THANK YOU from all in Ahane Bord na nOg and Camogie Club to Mr. Paul Kennedy and all the coaches, parents and all supporters who helped this year.

Ahane senior Camogie – County Final

Unfortunately Sunday wasn’t to be and we lost out to a good Newcastle West team. In a game that was jam packed with hard hits, great skill and high intensity it was Newcastle West that came out the better with a nine point victory, 1-15 to 0-09.

To the hard working, dedicated panel of girls who from the cold long nights in January to the fine summer evenings in July have represented the club so well, we want to thank you all. What you have done for Camogie in the club over the last number of years has been amazing and we are so very lucky to have such role models for our younger players. As a club we are incredibly proud of how you have all held yourselves throughout the season and of the top class camogie you have played all season. You are a credit to your friends, family, and to yourselves.

Well done to our Captain Rose Collins and two Vice Captains, Noreen Flanagan and Áine Reynolds, when we needed leaders all three of you stepped up, when the girls need someone to drive them on you were there. Rose drove it from full back and no matter whether you were on the field of play or in the stands you could hear Rose shouting encouragement at her players. Rose is a role model to each and every player in the club. Rose was an outstanding captain and we are beyond proud to call her one of our own.

Huge thank you to the Herbert family for their continuous support of both the girls and the club, they always give us a hero’s welcome win lose or draw! Massive thank you to Diarmuid and Blá especially for the unbelievable spread of food they put on for us yesterday it was much enjoyed and appreciated by all!

Last but not least, thank you to each and every single person who has travelled to watch the girls play this year, from the league to championship matches to challenge games, to see so many from the club out supporting the girls is amazing and we really hope you will all be out again next year for the 2020 season!

Over 35’s Hurling

We will resume playing on Saturday next, 19th of October in UL astro (Maguires field) from 4-5pm. If you haven’t joined up yet and are keen on playing at some stage over the next few weeks, please keep an eye on our social media forums for updates and contact details to in order to get involved.
