AHANE GAA CLUB NOTES

Ahane Junior A Hurling Championship Rnd 4

Ahane started this game slowly, struggling to match the early pace Caherline set and found themselves 5 points to 1 down after 15 minutes. However they rallied well and our young midfield pairing of Conor Heffernan and Andrew Shanahan began to gain a foothold, winning ball and help setup some great points through Ollie Moran, Conor Heffernan and Ronan Fox and 4 from Andrew Minihan which included 2 from play. This left the bare minimum between the teams at H/T with Caherline ahead 0-08 to 0-07. Ahane were to rue the easy chances missed in that 1st half which they dominated the play for long periods but included 7 wides all from scoring range,

The 2nd half saw Caherline get on top with 4 early pts to Ahane’s 1 before a killer breakaway goal put Caherline firmly in the driving seat. Ahane never let their level of effort drop but Caherline just had a little bit more and duly added 2 more goals to leave them 3-14 to 0-14 ahead at full time.

Ahane managed to get all their young subs onto the field and remained competitive throughout, led in no small way by the ever-young Ollie Moran. We can take consolation that they are building a young junior team but missing 6 regulars from the start and injuries during the game took its toll unfortunately in the end.

Team: P. Minihan, G. Harnett, M. Hayes, T. O’Sullivan, T. Doheny, P. Morrissey, J. Doheny, A. Shanahan, C. Heffernan (0-1), , Ollie Moran (0-4), A. Minihan (0-4), R. Fox (0-2), T. Clifford (0-1), D. Madden (0-1), J. Power Subs: D. Laing, L. O’Sullivan, J. Maguire, D. Brennan (0-1), D. Hayes,

Ahane Senior Hurlers

The senior side played Na Piarsaigh in Caherdavin on Saturday evening last in and ended losing 2-18 to 0-14 in their fifth game. On a lovely evening for a game, both sides were shorn of their county players but plenty of experience was on show all the same. Ahane had some good performances throughout the field, including Paddy Morrissey as stand-in keeper, but went in trailing at the break by a few scores. The resumption saw both side hit some fine scores and both keepers pulling off some fine saves. Na Piarsaighs’ extra strength saw them pull away late on as Ahane still seek their first league win of the campaign.

Team: P. Morrissey, M. Foley, E. Enright, C. Heffernan, J. Enright, C. Barry, M. O’Halloran, C. O’Mara, P. O’Halloran, P. Harnett, W. Brennan, N. Moran, A. Shanahan, D. Madden, S. Power. Subs: R. Fox, D. Laing, T. Doheny, G. Harnett
