AHANE

East Senior Hurling League
Boher played host to Ahane v Murroe Boher on Saturday evening in the fourth round of the East Senior Hurling League. A fabulous evening for hurling saw Murroe Boher get the first point closely followed by a second before Adam Murrihy continued his good form by getting a lovely point from a free which he won himself. William Brennan than pointed his shot on goal before Murroe got their third. Andrew Shanahan got our next score after a lovely little handpass from Willie. Defensively we did very well with Jonathan Hayes pulling of some super saves between the posts. Murroe continued to tack on points and went into a four-point lead. Willie brought it back to three and then Adam slotted over a free to bring the gap to two. He then got one of the scores of the game to bring us to within a point of Murroe Boher. As was the theme of the opening twenty minutes, any time Ahane got within a point of Murroe, Murroe got a couple of good scores on the bounce to stretch their lead. Twenty-four minutes gone and they were six points up as they got their goal. Ahane never panicked though, as Adam got another point from a free and Mark O’Halloran added his name to the score sheet with a point from play. Adam got on the end of a lovely move, controlled the ball beautifully and completed the whole thing with a score. Proving that it’s not just our forwards that can score, Evan Enright made the run with the ball from full back and scored a lovely point just before the half time whistle. We were three points down at half time, score was Ahane 0-10 Murroe Boher 1-10.
The second half got underway, and we were quickest out of the blocks with Adam and Willie getting a point each and again we were within a point, but Murroe got two points of their own to ensure the gap was at three again. For the next five minutes, Adam traded points with the Murroe Boher forwards as he scored two and so did, they. They went on to score four points on the trot without reply and we were going into the fifty second minute seven points down. Kevin Morrissey did get a point to being us to six down and then a minute later he stepped over a free, the ball was saved by the keeper, but the rebound was buried to the back of the Murroe Boher net by Aidan Carroll and we were only a goal behind. Willie Brennan then scored a point from a free, the gap was down to two and you could sense that if Ahane got another opportunity they were going to score, and this game was going to go down to the wire. Unfortunately, Murroe Boher ensured their win with an injury time point and the game finished as Ahane 1-16 Murroe Boher 1-19.
Limerick Munster U20 Hurling Champions
Huge well done to Evan O’Leary, Johnny Meskell, and all the Limerick U20 team and management on winning the Munster U20 Championship on Wednesday night! Fantastic win for the lads and fantastic for the club to have the two lads involved! As he has shown for the club, Evan played some more unbelievable hurling throughout all the games.
East Junior A Football League
Tuesday saw our Junior A Footballs face Ballybricken Bohermore in Mackey Park. Ballybricken started the quicker and were three points up in the opening five minutes. Our opening score came from Tristan O’Sullivan and that settled the team. Evan Power got our next score, and we were only a point behind. Tommy O’Donnell made his way from centre back with the ball and finished the move by scoring a lovely point and bringing the sides level with three points apiece. Ballybricken then scored three points before we scored our next point. Jimmy Feerick scored our only goal of the game as he caught a well taken side-line kick from Tommy. At half time the score was Ahane 1-04 Ballybricken Bohermore 0-08.
Ballybricken again started the second half quicker with three points scored before we got our first point of the half. Tristan then got a lovely score, but unfortunately Ballybricken got five more points and we could only manage to score one more before the final whistle. We gave it our all and the lads put in a serious performance, but we ran out of steam in the end. Full time score Ahane 1-07 Ballybricken 0-16
