FR CASEYS
Upcoming Fixtures
Senior County Quarter- Final
Fr. Caseys Vs Kildimo / Pallaskenry – Saturday October 1st in Newcastle West at 4.00pm
Senior County Championship
Fr. Caseys 0-11 Newcastle West 0-12
Fr. Caseys travelled to Dromcolliher last Sunday to face local rivals Newcastle West in a top of the table clash and a place in the county semi-final awaiting the winner. Newcastle kicked the first point of the day but Fr. Caseys replied with three unanswered points thanks to Dylan Quirke and a brace from Martin Scannell, one coming from a free. Newcastle levelled proceedings as we reached the first quarter but a delightful solo run from Eliah Riordan through the centre and a fine point from 40 yards had the Abbeyfeale men back in front. The teams would trade points before the break with Eliah Riordan once more on target from a placed ball. The half time score was Fr. Caseys 0-05, Newcastle West 0-04. Very little separated both sides with both defences giving little away. Newcastle had shaded the possession stakes but on the scoreboard Fr. Caseys were ahead by one.
A blistering start to the second half saw Fr. Caseys extend their lead to three points with two more fine scores from Dylan Quirke and the busy Martin Scannell. The county champions for the first time looked exposed but as was expected they collected themselves and kicked four unanswered points to regain the lead. The teams then exchanged points with Adrian Enright kicking a lovely point under pressure. Scores were now at a premium but Newcastle West still managed two more points to lead by three with just over five minutes remaining. Fr. Caseys were not finished yet and a pointed free from Martin Scannell and another point from play from Adrian Enright left just a single point between the teams as we headed for injury time. When Newcastle kicked their twelfth point of the day the contest looked over but another Martin Scannell free gave hope and there would be time for one more late shot but unfortunately it went wide. Newcastle West held on for a slender victory on a final score of Fr. Caseys 0-11, Newcastle West 0-12.
The result means the Fr. Caseys will now face Kildimo/Pallaskenry next Saturday at 4pm in Newcastle West in the county quarter final. If the team can collect themselves and produce another solid performance then this championship is right back on track but it will not be easy against a Kildimo/Pallaskenry side that have exceeded all expectation in their first year at senior and will have nothing to lose. Best of luck to all involved and hopefully we will have a large crowd following the team once more. As with all previous games, supporters are advised to purchase their entry tickets online in advance. Please view the related links on our Club Facebook page.
