FR. CASEY’S GAA CLUB NOTES
County Senior Football Championship
Fr. Caseys 0-13, Monaleen 1-06
Fr. Caseys Senior Footballers travelled to Adare last Saturday evening looking to put more points on the board to guarantee a county quarter final place. Standing in their way were Monaleen who still had an outside chance of making the knockout stages depending on results elsewhere. An early Billy Quirke point opened the scoring but Monaleen had the perfect answer, breaching the Fr. Caseys defence and firing home for goal. A second point from Billy Quirke and a well taking long range point from Michael Roche levelled proceedings midway through the half. Scores were at a premium with Monaleen dropping very deep to flood their defence while Fr. Caseys with the lion’s share of possession were failing to make any significant gains. On the counter attack Monaleen regained the lead nearing half time but a pointed free from Jamie O’Connor in injury time left the teams tied at 0-04 to 1-01 at the break.
Monaleen kicked the opening point of the second half but Fr. Caseys then found their groove with four unanswered points from Adrian Enright, Daniel Daly, Cormac Roche from a free and Mark McCarthy. Monaleen reduced the margin to two points but points from Dylan Quirke and Daniel Daly put Fr. Caseys in the driving seat with 15 minutes remaining. A brace of points from Monaleen kept their challenge alive but just when required Adrian Enright stepped up to kick his second point of the night and leave Fr. Caseys with a three point lead. Monaleen reduced the margin to two points but this would be their last score of the night as Fr. Caseys showed great maturity with the finishing line in sight to close up the shop and two late Cormac Roche points ended the contest. The full time score was Fr. Caseys 0-13, Monaleen 1-06.
It was an impressive display from the Abbeyfeale men who dealt with the defensive approach from their opponents and eventually exploited the gaps to march to victory. With four wins from five games, Fr. Caseys finish second in the group and will now play St. Kierans on the weekend of September 6th – 8th. Awaiting the winners is a semi-final encounter with Oola. There are still improvements to be made but the last month has been positive and the team are definitely moving in the right direction. We wish all involved the best of luck in the coming weeks
County Minor Football Championship

Fr. Caseys Minor Footballers maintained their 100% championship record last Wednesday night with a hard fought 2-11 to 1-11 victory away to Monaleen in bad conditions. This victory guarantees the Abbeyfeale men a place in the knockout stages. The final round of group games takes place on August 27th. Fr.
