AHANE GAA CLUB NOTES

Senior Hurling Club Championship

The lads resume action this Sunday 1st September as they face Murroe/Boher in their final group game in Caherconlish at 1pm.

Having a record of three wins and the single defeat from their opening games, the seniors are nicely poised at joint top of the group going into the final round of games and a win will see them qualify for the quarter finals of the County championship. There is a lovely blend of youth and experience across the squad and manager Davey Givens will be hoping this side will keep their current winning run of form going.

Be sure and come out to support the lads in this important game.

Ahane Minor Hurlers

We faced off against Na Piarsaigh on Friday last in Newgarden and unfortunately came out the wrong end of a 4-11 to 1-11 defeat. Having started at a blistering pace, with Andrew Shanahan goaling within the opening minute of play, the lads followed up with a number of points on the board before NaP started to edge their way back into the game. Many of Ahane’s scored came through the un-erroring accuracy of Adam Murrihy stick from frees and play. Unfortunately Ahane lost their goalkeeper through injury in that first half following a collision having bravely lunged to block a shot.

A couple of well taken goals late in the half saw NaP gain parity and indeed push ahead on the scoreboard before the halftime break.

While the lads kept trying throughout the second half, two further NaP goals always allowing them remain in control of the game and dispite some resolute performacnes across the Ahanae side, they were not able to pull back the NaP lead.

Next up is Mungret in Ahane at 6:30pm on August 27th  – be sure and come out to support the lads.

Limerick v Waterford U16 Camogie All-Ireland Final

Well done and hard luck to Aine and Fiona Herbert and all the U16 team and mentors from Ahane Bord na nOg and all in the GAA Club in the All-Ireland Final on Sunday last as they took on Waterford. The girls had a great run to get to the final and were unfortunately beaten by a strong Waterford team on the day.

U6 Hurling Blitz in UL

On Saturday last, a strong U6 squad of 30 took part in very well organized blitz hosted by Newcastlewest GAA at the magnificent facility at Maguires Pitches in UL. Newcastlewest & Cratloe provided the opposition.

We fielded 7 teams who each played 4 matches of 12 minutes each. All players got plenty of ball time and there were lots of fantastic displays of ground hurling drawing great praise from mentors. We are very lucky to have great coaches (& always looking for more!) and parents willing to help out, ensuring all the players get the best foundation for their hurling in a fun environment. Special thanks to our first aid who was on hand with ice packs & to all the supporters.
