‘Take a bow’, says chairman, as excitement builds towards Bon Secours Limerick County Senior Hurling Championship final
The Chairman of Limerick GAA, John Cregan, has said everyone, from teams to officials and sponsors, should take a bow for making what earlier in the year looked like the impossible happen – a county senior hurling final this weekend.
The Bon Secours Limerick County Senior Hurling Championship Final will be hosted this Saturday evening at the LIT Gaelic Grounds at 7.30pm and will be televised live on RTE2.
Speaking ahead of the game, County Chairman John Cregan said given the year that’s in it, there will be even more interest than ever in Saturday’s decider. It has, he said, been a feat of commitment, dedication and passion for the game of hurling, from all involved to make this happen.
The Daly cup is the most coveted piece of silverware in Limerick Hurling and was presented to the County Board in 1928 by Madge Daly. On Saturday evening next Doon GAA Club will attempt to take the Daly Cup home for the first time ever, in their path will be Na Piarsaigh GAA, who will strive to reach their 6th title.
The Chairman paid particular tribute to the Bon Secours Health System for staying the course as sponsor in what has been a really challenging year for everyone. ““We would like to acknowledge the very generous sponsorship of Bon Secours Hospital Limerick during this very difficult year. We have a much-changed championship, more condensed to what we are used to and then had to face the challenge without spectators or supporters, which has been very difficult for all concerned. Our sponsors have been essential in keeping this show on the road.
“Limerick GAA has a long-standing relationship with Bon Secours Hospital Limerick, not least due to the partnership already in place that sees inter-county players receive quick access to world-class scans for diagnosis of injuries. However, this has been a very difficult year for everyone in the health services but despite that they stayed the course with us and we’re very grateful for that.”
Speaking at the launch, Jason Kenny, Hospital CEO at Bon Secours Limerick said: “We are delighted to sponsor the Limerick Senior Hurling Club Championship as we appreciate just how much hurling is part of the culture of Limerick and this is the biggest club game of the year.
“We are really looking forward to the final next Saturday evening between Doon and Na Piarsaigh. Doon’s presence in it for the first time will bring another dimension to the final this year. On the other hand, Na Piarsaigh have been the standard bearers over the past decade with five titles. So, it promises to be a really intriguing affair and, like all neutrals, we look forward to hurling be the winner at the end of it all.”
