ST. PATRICK’S GAA CLUB NOTES
The notes this week have just one item but reflect the most distinctive achievement by a club representative in our proud history.
All those years attending Limerick hurling matches, hungry for success, hopeful Limerick would reach the holy grail and hopeful that through hardwork at underage and on the field in Rhebogue maybe someday a St Patrick’s man would play his part in the drive for Liam MacCarthy.
Limerick reached that holy grail in 2018 and St Patrick’s Gearoid Hegarty was to the fore.
On Saturday Gearoid reached the pinnacle, as Gearoid said himself afterwards “a phenomenal honour, and I’m delighted to be joining a list of incredible hurlers. So I’m very honoured”.
That list of legends to win the award read DJ Carey, Henry Shefflin, Brian Corcoran, Joe Canning to name but a few now Gearoid is added to the Illustrious list.
As a club it feels like we are living in a dream, but it is a marvellous reality- be proud. A truly outstanding accomplishment for Gearoid and the highest honour in the game.
An Outstanding achievement that is richly deserved for an absolute gentleman and a hurler for the ages.
Always courteous and grounded, Gearoid is an inspiration for our underage stars and always on hand to give them guidance when possible.
A momentous and emotional night for our great club, the oldest in Limerick City.
We think of all those who are no longer with us but smiling down, the present members, players and supporters who can savour Gearoids remarkable achievement.
Words cannot describe how proud we are of Gearoid, who deserves all that he has achieved and more.
Gearoid Hegarty, St Patrick’s Limerick, Allstar and 2020 Hurler of the Year.
Comhghairdeas Gearoid☘💚👏
