St Kierans GAA Club Notes:
County Intermediate Hurling Championship Round 3:
St. Kierans 0.19 Pallasgreen 1.16
The intermediate hurlers returned to championship action and resumed their rivalry with Pallasgreen on Saturday afternoon in Adare. Both sides needed a win to keep their championship aspirations alive, and the east Limerick side got off to an excellent start in the opening quarter leading 0.4 to 0.2 after fifteen minutes of play. Despite our slow start we quickly worked out way into the game thanks to scores from Jack O’ Sullivan, Conor McMahon and Ian Mackessy. We were unlucky not to find the back of the net on two occasions in the opening half as Eoin McEnery first cut in along the end line only to have his effort saved by the Pallasgreen netminder. Minutes later McEnery once again got on the end of a long ball and found himself in space bearing down on goal, but his effort narrowly went outside the post and wide. Growing in confidence and beginning to win our individual battles throughout the field we took the lead thanks to the free taking of Jack O’ Sullivan and led 0.9 to 0.7 at the break. We began the second half brightly and we provided a major bonus when Pallasgreen were reduced to fourteen men. Playing with a numerical advantage we would increase our half time lead to six points following further scores from Jack O’ Sullivan and Cathal McEnery. With ten minutes remaining Pallasgreen were awarded a penalty which was clinically finished by Puc Fada Champion Colin Ryan to make it a one score game. Pallasgreen now had momentum and began to force us into errors. Two further Pallasgreen frees reduced our lead to the slightest of margins as we now found it increasingly difficult to secure primary possession. As the final whistle approached the East Limerick side were awarded a free on their own forty-five-yard line. Ryan’s long-distance effort dropped short. Unfortunately, we failed to adequately deal with the breaking ball and the referee awarded Pallasgreen a late free to tie up the game in injury time. With no time remaining there was to be no separating the two sides at the final whistle. In a game we looked to have under our control for long periods of time both teams would come away with a share of the spoils. We are back in championship action this Friday evening in a West Limerick derby against a Feohanagh / Castlemahon who had an excellent victory over Knockainey in round 3 to maintain their championship aspirations. Friday nights game promises to be a highly competitive encounter. With two draws from our opening three games victory is vital if we are to are to stand a chance of qualifying for the knockout stages of the championship. Friday’s round 4 encounter throws in a 6.45 in Dromcollogher.

County Junior ‘C’ Hurling Championship:
St. Kierans 3.18 Adare 2.9
The Junior hurlers welcomed Adare to Pairc Naomh Ciarain, Ardagh on Sunday evening for round three of the County Championship. With two wins from their opening two games we knew we faced another step up in opposition following the opening round defeat at the hands of Askeaton/Ballysteen/Kilcornan. We welcomed several players back into the starting fifteen which undoubtedly strengthened our hand. Goals win games and three goals from Jonathan Ruttle, Tony Doyle and Oisin Ryan ultimately proved to be the catalyst for Sunday’s victory as we got our championship campaign back on track ahead of our third outing this Sunday evening when we travel east to take on Doon.
