St. Kierans GAA Club Notes:
Pairc Naomh Ciarán, Ardagh:
746 days after work starting, on Friday May 2, 2025 our new pitch, Pairc Naomh Ciarán in Ardagh played host to its first ever match as we welcomed Na Piarsaigh for Round 5 of the City-West Intermediate Hurling League. It’s a great achievement by our community and our club to have this fine facility which we hope can drive us on to further success in the years ahead. Canon Tony Mullins performed a blessing of the field in advance of the game to mark the occasion. It was tremendous to see such a large crowd in attendance on what was a beautiful evening for a game. The bright sunshine and excellent playing conditions ensured that we had a highly entertaining game. We look forward too many more games in Pairc Naomh Ciarán in the weeks and months ahead.

The intermediate hurlers welcomed Na Piarsaigh to Pairc Naomh Ciarán, Ardagh for the first game on our new pitch on Friday evening last. Playing conditions were exemplary on a sun-drenched evening as the two sides served up a highly entertaining hour of hurling. We began the game brightly racing into a four-point lead inside the opening quarter with Jack O’ Sullivan proving to be extremely potent from placed balls. The Caherdavin side would reduce their deficit in half by the interval as we enjoyed a two-point lead, 0.9 to 1.4 with further scores coming from Conor Woulfe and Cathal McEnery. We got off to the perfect start in the second half as Eoin McEnery operating at wing back cut through the heart of the Na Piarsaigh defence to rifle the ball into the back of the net. The second half was hotly contested, further scores came from Cillian Ambrose Sean Ryan to maintain our lead before a late flurry from Na Piarsaigh saw the sides deadlocked as the final whistle approached. Second half substitutes Jack Harnett and Aaron Heffernan linked up before Heffernan coolly slotted the ball over the crossbar to restore our lead. At the final whistle we came away with a hard-earned two-point victory over a Na Piarsaigh side whom we will face off against later in the year in the County Championship. with Friday’s win we have now finished top of the group with four wins from our five game and have advanced to the semi-finals in the coming weeks.
