St Kierans GAA Club Notes:
Fixtures:
Saturday April 19 – West Intermediate Hurling League – St. Kierans vs Crecora in Crecora at 6pm.
West Senior Football League:
St. Kieran’s 2.21 Kildimo / Pallaskenry 0.5
The senior footballers recorded a comprehensive victory over Kildimo / Pallaskenry on Saturday afternoon. Fielding a strong starting fifteen that showed six changes from the side that defeated Rathkeale earlier in the week we got off to the perfect start with Alan Daly finding the back of the net from the opening play of the game and from here we always looked like winning the game against a depleted Kildimo side. We played some excellent football throughout the opening half with the inside line of Alan Daly, Michael Long and Kevin Meade proving to be extremely menacing. We were unlucky not to have a second first half goal as Kevin Meades effort rattled off the crossbar. further first half scores from Daly, Meade, John Hayes and Liam Kennedy ensured that we enjoyed a 1.8 to 0.4 lead at the interval. The understrength Kildimo side kept working hard to their credit throughout the second half as we introduced some fresh legs who brough great energy to our forward line win Eoin McEnery scoring two pointers during the second half. At the final whistle we came away with a comprehensive victory which ensures our qualification for the West Championship semi-final following the conclusion of the group stage. We will face off against Kildimo once again in the County Championship later in the summer. Championship games between the two sides are always hotly contested with either side enjoying a victory apiece in our last two championship encounters. In our final group game, we travel to Adare on Saturday April 26.

County Junior ‘A’ Football League:
St. Kieran’s 2.9 Ahane 0.11
Fresh from our draw against Granagh/Ballingarry the Junior footballers took on 2024 County Junior ‘A’ Champions Ahane on Sunday evening in the Bog Garden Rathkeale. We began the game brightly thanks to an early score from Oisin Commane and two pointer from Cathal O’ Connor as we played with the assistance of a strong breeze in the opening half. We raised a green flag mid way through the half when Fionn Gleeson found the back of the Ahane net. A Cathal McEnery point and a second two pointer from outside the arc this time from Anthony Molyneaux ensured that we led by six at the break, 1.6 to 0.3. Our lead would grow to eight points early in the second half thanks to further scores Cathal O’ Connor, Anthony Molyneaux and Luke Corrigan before a Mikey Kelly goal put us in a commanding position as the final whistle approached. Having enjoyed a good lead against Granagh / Ballingarry in the previous round only to be reeled back in by two late two pointers the lads showed great composure to see out the game against the physically imposing east Limerick side. At the final whistle there was a great sense of satisfaction having secured our second win of the campaign which should be enough to secure our place in the knockout phase of the league in the weeks ahead. Mikey Kelly and Charlie McMahon got their first taste of adult football and it great to see so many younger players continue to make the step up from underage level and take their opportunity at adult level. Well done to the players and management team on picking up two excellent results this week against Granagh / Ballingarry and Ahane, two sides who are operating a level above us in Premier Junior this season. Also, many thanks to Rathkeale GAA club for the use of the Bog Garden on short notice on Sunday as Coolcappagh wasn’t available.
