St. Kierans GAA Club Notes:

Munster Club Junior ‘B’ Football Championship:
St. Kieran’s vs Roanmore (Waterford)
Sunday January 26
Ballyagran 2pm
This Sunday afternoon the Junior Footballers get their Munster Championship campaign underway when they take on Waterford Champions Roanmore in the 1/4 Final. Hosted by Knockaderry GAA club the Munster Championship got underway this past weekend with Tipperary Champions Burgess overcoming Clare Champions Wolfe Tones of Shannon in the first quarter final to secure their place in the semi-final against Kerry Champions Beale. As Knockaderry’s pitch is currently under redevelopment all games are taking place once this year in Castletown / Ballyagran GAA grounds in Ballyagran.
We come into the game following an excellent 2024 season which saw the team capture three of the four titles up for grabs winning the County League, West and County Championships. The team played some excellent football throughout the season leaving their best performance to last putting in a fantastic display to comprehensively overcome Mungret / St. Paul’s in the County Final. Sunday’s opponents Roanmore hail from Waterford City and enjoyed a very fruitful 2024 Championship campaign overcoming Mount Sion and St. Saviours in the group stages of the East Waterford Championship before overcoming St. Saviours once again in the divisional final. Following divisional championship success, they overcame West Champions Abbeyside in the County decider by a goal to secure the county title and promotion to the Junior ‘A’ ranks.
Like ourselves the Waterford side contains a nice mix of youthful exuberance and experienced players with a wealth of senior championship experience. Their senior side returned to the senior ranks in 2024 following victory in the 2023 Water Premier Intermediate Championship and preserved their senior status in 2024 by overcoming Intermediate Champions Stradbally in a Promotion / Relegation play-off. It is a huge honour for our club to once again get the opportunity to represent Limerick in a Munster Championship. For several panel members it will be their third Munster Championship campaign having been involved in the 2010 and 2022 Munster Junior ‘A’ Hurling Championship campaigns which saw us advance to the Munster final on both occasions. Hopefully we can draw on past experiences gained and put in another strong performance which will be necessary if we are to advance to the semi-final against Cork Champions Goleen. For our younger panel members, it is a fantastic opportunity to get an early test playing at a higher level against teams from outside Limerick in advance of the County Junior and Senior football championship campaigns. Sunday afternoon’s game promises to be a highly competitive encounter between two sides who will have their eyes set on advancing to the penultimate stage of the competition. We would encourage all club members to make the short journey to Ballyagran on Sunday and lend their support to the players and management team who have been working hard since Christmas in preparation for the game. We will have live updates throughout on Whatsthescor and Twitter for those unable to attend.
