St. Kierans GAA Club Notes:
Co. U20 ‘B’ Football Championship Final:
St. Kierans v Galtee Gaels
Friday December 20
Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale,
On Friday evening the u20 footballers will look to add a second County Championship to the trophy cabinet for the 2024 season when they travel to Rathkeale to take on south Limerick side Galtee Gaels in the County decider. Both sides come into the game brimming with confidence following comprehensive semi-final victories. We overcame the combination of Croom / Granagh-Ballingarry on Saturday afternoon while the previous evening Galtee Gaels saw off the challenge of St. Senan’s. For several panel members it will be their second County Championship final this campaign having been members of the successful Junior football squad, while five of the starting team tasted senior county championship action this year. This will be our first County final at this level since 2017 when we overcame another south Limerick side Ballylanders in the U21 ‘B’ decider in Mick Neville Park. Friday nights game promises to be a highly entertaining game between two high scoring sides. Throw in is at 9pm in Na Piarsagh GAA Grounds in Caherdavin. We will have live updates throughout on our social media outlets. Your support is greatly appreciated.

County U20 ‘B’ Football Championship Semi-Final:
St. Kierans 2.14 Croom / Granagh-Ballingarry 0.7
Following a three week break the u20 footballers were back in action on Saturday afternoon as they travelled to Rathkeale to take on Croom/Granagh-Ballingarry with the prize on offer a county final berth against Galtee Gaels. Having put in an excellent performance in the opening round of the championship against St. Senan’s morale was high within the group but we knew we would have to perform to a high standard once more against a Croom/Granagh-Ballingarry side who were looking to advance to the football decider having also qualified for the u20 hurling final following their semi-final victory on Thursday evening. We began the game brightly moving the ball quickly putting our opponents under pressure at the back. The major breakthrough came before half time as Jack Sullivan continued his rich vein of form to find the back of the net to put us in a commanding position going in at the half time interval with a thirteen-point lead, 1.12 to 0.2. We began the second half brightly continuing to move the ball forward at pace. To our opponents credit they continued to work hard throughout the second period and made us work much harder for our scores and were rewarded with five second half scores. With the game drawing to conclusion second half substitute Charlie McMahon found himself in the scoring zone and found the back of the net to increase our tally and ensure qualification for the County Final. The manner of the performance was extremely pleasing, and we can look forward to the county final with optimism. Undoubtedly, we will face a huge step up in opposition this Friday night against a Galtee Gaels side who have been extremely potent in front of goals in their three games to date but equally secure only conceding 1.14 in total so far. Well done to the players and management team on Saturday’s victory.
