St. Kierans GAA Club Notes:

County Junior ‘B’ Football Championship Semi-Final:
St. Kierans 2.11 Bruree 0.3
South Limerick Champions Bruree provided the opposition on Sunday afternoon for the much-anticipated County Junior ‘B’ Football Championship Semi-Final. following two hard-earned victories over Knockaderry and Knockane in our last two outings played in challenging conditions we faced similar circumstances in Dromcollagher on Sunday afternoon as Storm Ashley battered the country. For our opponents it was their third championship game in eight days having defeated Murroe / Boher in the County Interemdiate Hurling Championship Semi-Final last weekend before putting in a strong performance to see off the challenge of Ballinacurra Gaels on Tuesday evening to advance to the penultimate stage of the Junior football championship. Despite not having played a competitive game in two weeks we showed no signs of ring-rust early on and quickly raced into a three-point lead with early scores from dangerous inside forwards Luke Corrigan and Anthony Molyneaux. Fielding a very experienced side with seven players who have a wealth of County Senior Football Championship experience under their belts through the years we managed the conditions the better of the two sides throughout the game knowing when was appropriate to maintain possession and when to let the ball travel. We held a commanding nine-point lead at the interval thanks to further opening half scores from Jack Harnett, Cathal McEnery and a Jack O’ Sullivan goal, his first of the game and from here it looked as if we already had one foot in the final. Much to Bruree’s credit they didn’t throw in the towel and worked extremely hard to maintain their double aspirations and opened their account with the first score of the second half before three Kieran’s scores from Jack Harnett and Luke Corrigan. Growing into the game and playing with the assistance of a stiff breeze Bruree began to punish some lapses in concentration on our part and reduced their deficit with two further points before a major turning point in the game as midfielder Jack O’ Sullivan continued on his vein of good form to find the back of the net for the second time and from here we were in a very commanding position to advance to the County decider in ten days. As the second half progressed Shane Lynch, Shane Fitzgerald, Seamus Mangan and Tom McMahon were introduced and each made important contributions as they look to push for a starting place ahead of the County Final. At the final whistle there was huge satisfaction by all concerned at a job well done and we can now look forward to the County Junior ‘B’ Football Championship final. Our opponents will be City Champions Mungret / St. Pauls who had a hard fought two-point victory over Knockaderry on Saturday. The county final promises to be an intriguing encounter between two sides who have built up a strong rivalry over the 2024 season. This will be the fourth time the two sides have met this campaign between League and Championship. The county final is due to take place the weekend of November 2/3 with the prize on offer promotion to the Junior ‘A’ ranks in 2025 as well as an opportunity to represent Limerick in the Munster Club Junior ‘B’ Football Championship which is hosted annually by Knockaderry GAA. Well done to the players and management team of Noel Broderick, Patrick Windle, James Windle and Nicky Kelly on an excellent victory on Sunday. We will have further fixture details in the coming days.
