St. Kierans GAA Club Notes:
West Junior B Football Championship Final:
St. Kierans v Knockaderry
Wednesday 25th in Mountcollins at 8pm
For the third year in succession the junior footballers will square off against near neighbours Knockaderry in the West Championship final. Both sides come into these evenings encounter buoyed by strong group campaigns in which each side built up large tallies in several games. Over the past number of seasons, a strong rivalry has developed between the two sides. Knockaderry emerged with a comprehensive victory in the 2022 decider before we turned the tides last season to secure an eight-point victory in the West decider, 2.8 to 0.6 in Raheenagh. Much of last seasons panel remain and they have been bolstered by the addition of several players with vast senior county championship experience including Johnny McCarthy, Anthony Molyneaux, John Doyle, Seamus Mangan and Donie Nolan. The addition of several new panellists from the minor ranks such as Luke Corrigan, Oisin Ryan and Jack O’ Sullivan has provided great energy to the team, and all have adapted extremely well to their first year playing at adult level. Knockaderry will undoubtedly be determined to reclaim the title they last won in 2022 and will draw confidence from their strong form in the County Premier Junior Hurling championship this season which has seen them advance to the county quarterfinals in ten days’ time. This evening’s game promises to be a highly competitive encounter between two evenly matched sides. The prize on offer is a coveted West title which are very difficult to win at all levels. Both sides will advance to Quarter Finals of the County Championship this Sunday against east Limerick opposition. This evenings winner will face East Championship runners up Knockane while East Champions Oola await this evenings runner up. Tonight’s game throws in at 8pm in Mountcollins, your support is greatly appreciated.

County Intermediate Hurling Championship Round 5:
St. Kierans 0.11 Mungret / St. Paul’s ‘B’ 1.21
The group phase of the County Championship concluded on Saturday afternoon as we took on County Junior ‘A’ Champions from 2023 Mungret / St. Pauls. While we had already been knocked out of the championship and faced into a relegation play-off regardless of the result our opponents could have advanced to the quarterfinals with a victory but also depended on other results going their way in the group. Fielding a team showing several changes following the heavy defeat to Murroe / Boher in our last outing the opening half was a keenly contested encounter with each side going score for score in the opening fifteen minutes with scores from Donie Nolan and Jack O’ Sullivan putting us on the board as we trailed by two points after fifteen minutes. The decisive score of the game came on the twenty-minute mark as the Mungret attack breached our defence to find the back of the net for the first time. Despite playing extremely well in the opening half we found ourselves with a five-point deficit at the break. Shorn the services of several first team regulars we began to tire as the second half progressed with several players playing their fifth championship game between hurling and football in the last three weeks. Knowing the qualification could come down to score difference the city side pushed hard as the half progressed in pursuit of qualification but as Bruree defeated the first-place side in the group Murroe – Boher to ensure their qualification it meant the city side couldn’t progress. Following the conclusion of the group phase of the county championship we now face the prospect of a relegation play-ff against Kilmallock ‘B’ on Saturday October 5. Despite defeat in our five group games, we were put in strong performances against Pallasgreen in round 1 and Bruree in Round 4 and could count ourselves unlucky not to have salvaged results in both games. If we can bring the same level of intensity and hard work to the field of play against Kilmallock next weekend, then we will put ourselves in a strong position to retain our Intermediate status for 2025.
Team vs Mungret: Cillian Ambrose, Aaron Heffernan, Diarmuid Mulcahy, Edward Fitzgerald, Sean Long, Mossie Shine, James O’ Connor, Cathal McEnery, Conor Woulfe, , Michael Murphy, Donie Nolan, Fionn Gleeson, Jack O’ Sullivan, Sean Ryan, Michael Long, Cillian Meade, Darragh McMahon, Cathal O’ Connor, Billy Breen.
