St. Kierans GAA Club Notes:

County Senior Football Championship Round 3:
The County Senior Football Championship resumes tomorrow evening as we take on Na Piarsaigh in round 3 with both sides searching for a win for contrasting reasons. We come into the game following two comprehensive victories over Ballylanders in round 2 before following it up with an excellent second half display to overcome Monaleen. In contrast Na Piarsaigh come into tomorrow evening’s game following two defeats from their opening two games against intermediate champions Mungret/St. Pauls and Ballylanders and will be determined to get their championship campaign back on track with a victory. The last championship encounter between the two sides was the 2021 relegation play-off semi-final. On that occasion following a titanic battle in which there was no separating the two sides following the sixty minutes of normal time we took the victory following extra time to preserve our senior status. Despite their relegation in 2021 Na Piarsaigh immediately made their way back to the Senior ranks following their Intermediate Championship success in 2022, in doing so advancing to the Munster Club championship final against Rathmore of Kerry. Tomorrows game promises to be a very competitive encounter, games between the two clubs have always been closely contested with very little separating the two sides. Victory would put us in a strong position to advance to the knockout stages of the championship with two further group games against Adare and Mungret/St. Pauls to come. Thursday nights game throws in at 6.45 in Ballybrown GAA Grounds, Clarina. We will be providing live updates throughout on the WhatstheScor App, Twitter and our WhatsApp Match updates group.

County Intermediate Hurling Championship Round 2:
St. Kierans 0.6 Croagh / Kilfinny 5.27
On Friday evening we came up against a vastly superior Croagh/Kilfinny outfit in round 2 of the County Championship. Played in excellent conditions in Dromcollogher the men in blue and white who had contested the past three County finals played an excellent brand of hurling which we found extremely difficult to cope with as they put us under intense pressure throughout the field and punished any mistakes on our part. At the interval we trailed 2.17 to 0.3 with our three first half scores all coming from Jack O’ Sullivan. In truth we failed to perform to the same high level as in the previous round against Pallasgreen when we were extremely unlucky not to come away with the victory late on having led for much of the opening half. On Friday while we didn’t play anywhere close to our potential, we simply came up against a very strong Croagh/Kilfinny side who were clearly determined to get their championship campaign back on track following their opening round defeat to Murroe / Boher. We never got a foothold on the game and while the team continued to work hard throughout the hour it was simply a night to forget and move on from for the remainder of the championship with three games remaining. The hurling championship now takes a took week hiatus for the resumption of the County Senior Football Championship. When we return, we face a round three encounter with group leaders Murroe/Boher who have two wins from their two games following victories over Croagh/Kilfinny and Mungret/St. Pauls B. In the other game played within the group last weekend Bruree defeated Pallasgreen by three points.
