ST KIERAN’S GAA CLUB NOTES

ST KIERANS GAA CLUB WELCOMES CAMOGIE ARM:
Following a meeting of the organising group of hurling sisters for fun (which was a great success in the fall of last year), we’ve decided to go ahead and organise a camogie arm of St Kieran’s GAA club. This is with a view to fielding u6, u8, u10, u12 and u14 teams in 2022. We feel there will be sufficient interest field teams in each of these age groups from our catchment area and surrounding parishes. We sincerely hope this initiative goes well and we’re confident it will. For many years girls from our club who wished to play camogie had to join neighbouring clubs. Many of these girls went on to play at county level and some still are playing at county level. This new initiative facilitates girls to play camogie with their new local club, at least up to and including u14 level at the moment. The most important thing is that girls enjoy playing the game and the rest will follow. The following will be the camogie officers for 2022;
Chairperson; Kieran Madigan.
Vice Chairperson and coaching officer; Padraig kiely.
Secretary; Sharon Sheahan
Asst secretary; Deirdre Ambrose.
PRO; Emma Galvin.
This initiative will be funded through membership/registrations and done through the senior club. We will support this organising group in every way possible. Best of luck to all involved.

Intercounty Activity:
Limerick senior footballers welcome Mickey Harte’s Louth side to the TUS Gaelic Grounds this Sunday. Limerick go into the game with a 100% record with two excellent victories over Longford and a highly fancied Antrim side last time out. After a weeks break which will be much wanted given the spate of injuries that Limerick have endured in the opening two rounds Limerick will no doubt be looking to make it three wins from three against a Louth side that drew last day out against Longford following an opening round defeat at the hands of promotion chasing Laois. Sunday’s game throws in at 2pm. Elsewhere Limerick u20 footballers get their pre-season Liam O’ Connor Cup campaign underway this Saturday when they welcome Clare to Limerick in their opening round encounter. Limerick have three games in the group where they travel to Wicklow before welcoming All Ireland Champions to Limerick in round 3. In the Munster Championship Limerick have been paired with Waterford in the Munster Quarter final with the winner advancing to a Munster Semi Final berth with Clare. Sean Ryan and Craig MacInnes are currently members of the U20 panel.
Sigerson Cup:
John Hayes and Michael Shanahan were part of the UL and MTU Kerry sides who had contrasting fortunes this past Thursday evening in the Higher Education Sigerson Cup Semi Finals. A David Clifford inspired UL side overcame the challenge of DCU in their semi final encounter in Dr. Cullen Park, Carlow but there was no joy for Mike Shanahan’s MTU Kerry side who bowed out after a pulsating encounter against NUI Galway that went to extra time following a dramatic last-minute point to level the game up for MTU Tralee. While both lads didn’t take to the field of play, to be selected for both panels is a fantastic achievement and testament to the hard work and commitment each player puts into their game. Undoubtedly the exposure to top-level training alongside top intercounty players will bring on their games and hopefully stand to them in the upcoming club campaign.
