ST. KIERAN’S

West Intermediate Hurling League Round 3:
St. Kieran’s 1.21 Monagea 0.15
We got our first win of the season on Friday evening last with an emphatic victory over local rivals Monagea in round 3 of the West League. Bolstered by the return of a number of first team regulars the lads put in an excellent performance putting together some excellent passages of play with the likes of Eoin McEnery in particular showing razor sharp accuracy having acquired the free taking duties on the night. It was an excellent attacking performance with each of the forwards making a telling contribution. Johnny McCarthy and James Muckell in particular proved to be extremely effective up front and were a constant threat up front. At the back the side defence was watertight and once again kept our opposition goalless. The manner of the victory was very pleasing given that we welcomed a number of first team regulars who had been absent in the earlier rounds back into the side and with a number of other first team regulars absent on the night there will be a lot of competition for places come championship time.

Munster Senior Football Championship
Limerick senior footballers fantastic season continued Saturday night with a historic victory over fierce rivals Clare in Cusack Park, Ennis. Limerick went into Saturday’s game off the back of an excellent league campaign which has seen them earn promotion to Division 2 in 2023. Despite this recent championship encounters would have favoured the home side to progress. After 90 minutes of football which included extra time there was no separating the two sides. In what was a first for the GAA the game was decided by a penalty shootout in which Limerick showed superior accuracy and emerged victorious 4-1 to secure their place in the Munster semi final in two weeks’ time against Tipperary in Thurles. Our own Darragh Treacy once again put in a huge performance lining out in the engine room in midfield while Liam Kennedy Is also a member of the Limerick panel. Limerick will now look forward to their Munster semi final clash full of optimism and confident that they can secure a place in the Munster final at the end of the month.
