South Liberties GAA Club Notes:
Munster Hurling Final 2024:
As John Kiely said in his post-match interview ” It may have been our 6th but if it felt like our 1st” . A massive congratulations to our Limerick Senior hurlers on making History last Sunday in Semple Stadium, Thurles. A 6 point win in their 6th
consecutive Munster Final Win. 6 IN A ROW. History Makers and so well deserved. Huge well done to Barry, who again played outstanding and appeared all over the pitch. This team was never in doubt for this monstrous Win.
Junior Hurling:
Our Junior hurlers continued their good start to the season on Friday evening when capturing the East Junior B league trophy.
Playing against Neighbour’s Ahane we started well and quickly ran into a three-point lead with David O Neill, Ben Compton and Sean Fitzpatrick on the score board. Ahane responded with a well worked score but by the midway point of the first half we had increased our lead and lead by 7 points to 2. It was nip and tuck at this stage with the Ahane keeper saving superbly from a Ben Compton shot. However, there was nothing he could do five minutes before the break when Ben raised our first green flag and as the halftime whistle went, we lead on a halftime score line of 1-10 to 0-8.
The second half started with Ahane on the front foot and 3 quick points reduced our lead to just 2 points.
Two pointed frees from David O Neill settled us again and for the remaining twenty minutes of the match Ahane only scored two more points. Brendan McSweeney scored our second goal and further points from Joe Hegarty, Brian Garry, Ben Compton and David O Neill saw us extend our lead. Brendan McSweeney scored his second goal in the last couple of minutes to see us win out on a score line of 3-18 to 0-13.
Captain David O Neill accepted the cup.
Best wishes to Ahane for the rest of the season the game was played in a very sporting manner and referee Mike Moloney left both sides play hurling.
Thanks to Caherline for use of their grounds the pitch was in top condition.

U13 Hurlers:
Our U13 Hurlers finished out their campaign last week with a win over Crecora on a scoreline of 7-05 to 3-04. This win made it 4 wins out of 5, finishing joint first with Coshlea Gaels, but they lost out on the League Final due to the head-to-head rule. Well done to this talented bunch of lads who have great prospects ahead.
