South Liberties GAA Club Notes:

AGM 2023:
Our AGM was held in the Club house on Monday November 27th last. Chairman John Godfrey, spoke about the successes of the year past, both on the field & on the development of our club & grounds. Our seniors, despite losing so many players early this year to emigration, moving to other Counties ,injury and retirement, there was a silent worry for our status, but this panel, with many young lads stepping up to the mark, remain at the top level for 2024 after an emphatic result in their relegation game. Huge consideration was given to the management & panel for this achievement. Our Junior lads won the Brian Butler Cup after a gap of 24 years. They went on to contest the County semifinal but lost out to Monaleen. Again, the Management of the junior team were commended.
Our U13 lads won a County Football Final & all our underage are thriving due to our Academy. Our U21 hurlers amalgamated team of South Liberties and Crecora/Manister reached the County Semi Final so wishing all involved the best of luck.
The committee has huge plans for the future with numerous fund raisers in the coming weeks & months so please keep following us on social media for updates. Prayers were said for all those who died the past year, with special emphasis on past secretary Colin Moloney & his impact on the club. Michael Fitzpatrick, who served as Chairman for many years & filled in for Colin this year as secretary, resigned , with Ger Nash taking back in the reigns as secretary. Mike paid a special tribute to Colin and mentioned the special bench on the grounds in his memory We would like to thank Michael for his tremendous efforts these past long years in his public work, but most notably for his relentless private endeavors behind the scenes that no one sees. Mike has been involved with so many past projects & we hope he will still be on hand to finish out some of the schemes he initiated. Maurice Barrett, our long-standing Treasurer, working his own magic with the finances & also contributing immensely to so many ground works, including lately planting some trees, gave us the financial update. Maurice works ferociously on trying to secure so many grants & is a very unknown treasure securing the whole back bone of Dooley Park. John Godfrey finished with an inspiring speech on building a future on the foundations of our past !
