Limerick Sports Partnership:
South Liberties had the honour to receive a visit last week to our club by European Champion David Gillick. The Limerick Sports Partnership were celebrating the Marathonkids programme, combining exercise and mental health in young kids and had over 70 kids walking and running the track. Well done everyone and what an honour for us all.
Seniors Table Quiz:
Our table quiz took place last Saturday night in The Four Elms. We had 31 teams partake in what was a brilliant and most enjoyable night. John Cooney was fantastic as our Quiz Master. Well done to all our winners and huge thanks to the various spot prize donators on the night. Our Auction for a framed “Barry Nash All Ireland Jersey” was great fun and was purchased for €2000.
Junior Hurling:
Our junior hurlers began their 2023 league campaign on Saturday evening with a trip to Mungret and came away with the points on offer after winning on a score line of 2-13 to 2-08.
Playing with the breeze in the first half we raced into an early lead with two points from Joe Hegarty. We continued on the front foot and by halftime we led by 1-09 to 1-02. Joe Hegarty with our goal and points from Mike Keane (0-4), Barry Walsh(0-2) and Jack Fitzpatrick (0-1) completing our first half scoring.
With the breeze now at Mungrets back for the second half they scored the first three points of the second half to reduce our lead. Barry Walsh got our first score of the second half with a point before a good team move started in defence saw Mike Keane finish in style to register our second goal midway through the second half. Both sides exchanged scores over the remaining ten minutes to see us win by five points.

Condolences:
Our condolences this week to the Treacy Family on the death of a long standing Post Man in our area, Donal (Toggy) and also the Butler Family on the sudden death of Michael John.
We also extend our deep sympathies to the Mc Guire and Mc Guinley families on the sad death of young Emma. Emma’s Mam, Antoinette, once compiled a fantastic book on our club called The History of South Liberties Hurling Club (1884-1976). Her Uncles played for South Liberties in their day and her famous grandfather Leo Mc Ginley, who played football with Donegal, was a huge follower of our club and lived to reach his 100th birthday. Emma was an amazing athlete and will be truly missed by so many.
