SOUTH LIBERTIES GAA CLUB NOTES

Club Trip to An Clochán Liath CLG, Dungloe, Co Donegal
A fantastic & memorable weekend was had by our club last weekend above in Tír Chonaill. An Clochán Liath won the Donegal Junior Championship in 2021 & when they hosted South Liberties for Féile back in 2014, they always had an open invite for us to go back up. We played them in hurling first, which we won on a score line of 3-15 to 2-8, with Liberties goals coming from our two young lads Ben Garry and Joseph Hegarty and our third from the “not so young” John Godfrey (Vice Chairman). John, played alongside his two sons, Darragh and Eoghan. The evening game was football, where An Clochán Liath got the better of us, with Cronan Garry and his son Ben playing together. Amidst all the trouble of war in the world right now, GAA shows us how communities can come together. The most outstanding moment for the weekend was club member David Punch (former Patrickswell & Limerick Hurling Star), togging out for Liberties at the tender age of 65. Much admiration for “Punchy” came in from all over the Country on our social media pages for this Legend. Well done to Declan Brosnahan & all for organising this weekend & thanks to the sponsors Elm Court Service St, The Four Elms & Bio Science Nutrition.
