JUNIOR A COUNTY HURLING SEMI FINAL
Following last week’s East Junior A final win, we faced Rathkeale in the county league semi-final in Clarina last Thursday evening. Having picked up a couple of injuries the last day we had to reshuffle our squad for this game.
We started slowly and some ill-discipline on our part saw Rathkeale lead by 0-7 to 0-1 by the first water break. On the resumption we had cut the deficit to a single point as Barry Walsh’s goal and points from Mike Keane, Shane O Neill and David O Neill by the 20th minute.
It was nip and tuck till the halftime whistle with the sides trading points to leave the score at the break 1-06 to 0-09.
The second half started in the same vein with never more than a single point between the sides and at the second water break we led 1-10 to 0-12.
Again, the sides traded points and as we entered the final five minutes the sides were level. However, points from the experienced Mike Keane and David O Neill 0-2 saw us lead by 3 with the final whistle fast approaching. Rathkeale went in search of a goal that would take the game to extra time but solid defending by our backs saw us hold on to win on a score line of 1-15 to 0-15.
Sean Keane, Kieran O Brien, Stephen Noonan, Micháel Meaney, Derek Lynch, Enda Meaney, Cathal O Neill, Shane O Neill(0-1),Mike Keane(0-4)Mike Moynihan(0-1),David O Neill(0-6)Shane Kilcoyne(0-3),Stephen Kilcoyne, William Hickey, Barry Walsh(1-0),Conor McNamara, Eoin Walsh, Alex Keyes, Patrick O Donnell, Ben Garry, Sean Ryan, Stephen Willis, Frank Lang, James Moynihan.
Underage:

Our U13 boys lost out in the football to St. Patricks despite beating them well the previous week in the Hurling.

GOOD LUCK WISHES
South Liberties wish to extend the great “Joe Canning” the very best wishes on his recent retirement from hurling. The “Galway Great” announced last week he was hanging up this helmet and boots. Joe has been one of the greatest hurlers for Galway of his era and will surely be a huge disappoint to The Tribesmen. Joe has played in our Legends Classic in recent years and will attend again this year.
Go n-éirí an t-adh leat Joe from all in South Liberties GAA Club.
