SOUTH LIBERTIES GAA CLUB NOTES

CLUB 5K FUNDRAISER
This coming May Bank holiday weekend Friday April 30th to Monday May 3rd, we are running a fundraiser whereby we are asking all members to get out and walk/cycle/run,
while adhering to Government restrictions and family/support bubbles. We must mention that members do NOT use the Club Grounds/Walking Track to reach their 5k, due to the presence of heavy machinery as part of the ongoing improvements works.
Send us in some photos or a pic of your route and donate as follows:
Adult Minimum €20 and Juvenile €10.
Click on
bit.ly/SouthLibs on Facebook, click on our website or lodge to BIC ULSBIE2D IBAN IE51ULSB98605013351035.
Proceeds will go towards the future development of our Club, but we are also incorporating “Mental Health Awareness in Young People”.
There will be videos broadcast on our Social Media Sites from members of the Club, speaking about Healthy Minds, in the week leading up to the weekend. A DONATION will be made to Jigsaw Limerick at the end of this fundraiser. Jigsaw is an organisation whose vision is for an Ireland where every young person’s mental health is valued and supported. We hope you will all participate in this event and show each other that there is support for everyone within our Community.
UNDERAGE ACADEMY
We are delighted to be able to announce that our Underage Academy will start up again on Friday evenings, beginning Friday April 30th in Dooley Park. If there are any parents willing to help out or get involved, please contact the Club.
Details and times will be provided in the next week through each our WhatsApp Groups and posted on our Social Media platforms.
Our Covid Officer Declan Brosnahan is now asking that all members complete the GAA Covid 19 Education Module.
This programme aims to protect the health and welfare of all involved in Gaelic Games and minimise the risk to transmission of Covid-19 in our community. It complements information, advice and support available to Clubs through County Committees and Provincials Councils. Once this module is done, you can then complete the return to play questionnaire. CLUB SPONSORSHIP DONATION
The Club wishes to thank Elm Court Service Station, Ballyneety and their fuel supplier “Inver” for their recent “Leading Lights Initiative” and donating €1,000 to our Underage Academy section. Leading Lights provides on the ground local support to organisations that focus on children and the club is extremely grateful for this very generous donation to help us to help our youth develop within our Club. The presentation cheque was handed over last Sunday on the forecourt of Elm Court with Larry Hickey, Diarmuid Kelly and Pat Donnelly and Aideen Fitzpatrick.

IRELAND LIGHTS UP
The GAA had hoped that the ‘Ireland Lights Up’ walking campaign would start in early 2021 while Operation Transformation aired on RTÉ but due to the Level 5 public health guidelines issued by the Government, this initiative had to be postponed.

PITCH DEVELOPMENT 2021/22
Over the past week or so there has been huge advancement on the development of our pitch – Please go to our Social Media and website for photographs.
Phase 1:
The initial plan was to aerate and sand the main playing pitch but now we have decided to carry out additional work due to reduced club activity:
Bring the pitch dimensions to a senior standard. Presently the pitch is 140mx73m and after widening it becomes 140mx80m.
This requires the removal of much of the walking track and lighting poles.
Targeted pitch drainage and aeration.
Sanding and reinstatement of displaces surfaces,
Phase 2: New Walking Track.
An application for funding has been made to Ballyhoura Development to install a new walking track with dedicated lighting. The new track would extend around the juvenile and all-weather pitches. This project is contingent on the funding application being successful and also our Pitch Sanding Fundraiser.
Phase 3: Under consideration
Construct a hurling wall – Pitch Dugouts – Improve Car Park Surfaces – Scoreboard.
Please support our current fundraisers for Phases 1 and 2. All details on our website.
MEMBERSHIP 2021.
With return to play less than two weeks away, we are again asking that Membership now needs to be paid up. We have a busy time ahead now preparing for training and impending games further along, so it is vital that every player is a paid member to cover for insurance etc.
Please help us make this transition easier now by visiting our website and paying online.
SPECIAL BIRTHDAY GREETINGS
The Club would like to wish our President of Ireland a very Happy 80th Birthday. Dr. Michael D Higgins celebrated his 80th birthday on Sunday last April 18th. Mr Higgins, who was born in Limerick in 1941, was first elected president in 2011 and went on to win a second term in 2018. The president was interviewed at Áras an Uachtaráin on last Friday nights Late Late Show.
