SOUTH LIBERTIES GAA CLUB NOTES

Our final game of the season saw our Junior A Footballers face Cappamore in the East championship final last Saturday. This was a tight game with never more than a couple of points between the sides throughout the game. 3 excellent points from Sean Keane in the first 15 minutes saw the sides level at 0-3 a piece before we raised the green flag for what turned out to be the only goal of the game. Winning possession in the middle of the field the ball reached Mike Moynihan who’s excellent pass found Sean Keane, Sean’s first time flick sent James Moynihan in on goal and Mini finished in style slipping the ball past the advancing keeper for the goal. Both sides again traded points Sean Keane and Eoghan Godfrey with our scores to see us lead on a scoreline of 1-05 to 0-05 at the break.
After the break Cappamore scored the first 2 points of the second half to reduce our lead to a single point but points from Mike Moynihan and Steven Kilcoyne again put 3 between the sides. Sean Keane added his 5th point and David Garry scored our final point to keep us 3 points up with time running out. Cappamore threw everything at us in the final few minutes as they searched for the goal that would send the game to extra time but some stout defending by full back Mike Keane and the rest of the backs kept them out. With that the final whistle sounded with the finishing scoreline of 1-09 to 0-09.
Thanks to John Paul Kiely who refereed the game very well and to Ahane who had the pitch in excellent condition despite the recent wet spell.
