SOUTH LIBERTIES GAA CLUB NOTES

Junior Hurling

We faced Fedamore in the first round of the East championship last Tuesday evening. Short several of our panel we managed to get 16 players out for this game. We started well and opened the scoring with a point from David Grimes, this was followed by 2 further points from Jamie Hogan and Matthew Gaule before Fedamore opened their account with a point. 10 minutes in we lost our full back Eoin Walsh to a knee injury and had to reshuffle our defense. We won a free in midfield which was taken by Matthew Gaule, Matthew’s free ended up in the Fedamore net which increased our lead. Midway through the half we lost another player to injury and had to see out the half with 14 men. We continued to play well and returning player Tony Carroll was a welcome addition to the squad. Fedamore hit back with a goal and two points. Further points from Matthew Gaule(3) and Sean Keane saw us lead at the break on a scoreline of 1-07 to 1-04.
Having to restart the second half with 15 players we patched up the injured David Kennedy and he battled away for the second half gamely. However as the game went on Fedamore got on top and soon had wiped out our lead. They pushed on after taking the lead and won out comfortably in the end.
Team Derek Grimes, Kieran O Brien, Eoin Walsh, Micheal Meaney, Tony Carroll, John Noonan, Derek Lynch, Matthew Gaule(1-4), Jamie Hogan(0-1), Sean Keane(0-2), Brian McDonagh, Gabriel Burke O Dwyer, James Moynihan, David Grimes(0-1), David Kennedy, Hugh Dunne.

U14 Hurling

Our U14 hurlers qualified for the shield semifinals after narrowly missing out on a place in the county semifinal. They played 10 games in the league round robin series winning 7 drawing 2 and loosing 1. This team have improved steadily since the start of their campaign and have every reason to be confident going into their shield semifinal.

U18 Hurling

We faced Caherline in our latest championship game and went down to a stronger Caherline side. This side is mainly an u17 team so they are gaining great experience this season.

Golf Classic

We held a very successful Legends Golf Classic in Ballyneety Golf Club recently. A great day and night was had by all, many thanks to all that helped out on the day, all our sponsors, the many legends that gave up their time, to the staff of Ballyneety Golf Club, our golf classic committee and anyone who helped in any way to make this a great days entertainment.
