SOUTH LIBERTIES CLUB NOTES

UNDERAGE ACADEMY
Our Underage Winter Academy finished last Friday December 17th and what a wonderful evening we all had. We had Christmas music blaring for all our younger kids while they enjoyed playing all over the pitch before being presented with selection boxes and medals.
Our Under 9, Under 11 and Under 13 boys and girls all did pre match marches to the music of The Sunday Game, while all the parents lined to road and clapped them onto the pitch. They then stood “while some jumped” for the National Anthem before each of the finals. Sean Carey was our referee for the night along with the help of Andrew Grimes. Limerick Star Shane Dowling presented all the children with their medals after giving each group some encouraging words for the future. A lot of our Senior players gave their support from the sideline, and “some” of South Liberties All Star Legends (Pat Hartigan, Eamon Grimes, and Joe Mc Kenna) were also spotted watching and cheering on all the kids. There was a very festive atmosphere all over Dooley Park made possible by all our volunteers who are due major credit for all the organising. We would like to thank all in “Truckbreak Ltd” for sponsoring all the medals and trophies. The planning will begin again early in the new year for our next session.
South Liberties “Where in the Parish” social media on-line quiz.
We extended our controversial quiz until this coming week as people were having too much fun debating the answers to some of the questions. We will announce the winner on social media in the next few days and present them with their hamper kindly sponsored by John Cooney.
AGM
We held our AGM on Microsoft Teams last Wednesday December 15th. Many thanks to all those who attended. All our present officers are staying on for 2022 bar our secretary Ger Nash. We take this opportunity now to thank Ger for all his voluntary time and effort this last while. We are now looking for a volunteer secretary and Ger has offered to help in any way he can.
All officers were thanked for their efforts all year, despite covid, whereby our membership almost doubled in monetary terms. Maurice Barrett, our treasurer, was commended on the amount of work he has put in with his contribution of our ground’s development and security over the last number of years. Maurice goes beyond his treasurer duties quietly in the background. Also, the Chairman thanked John Leamy and his committee for the work in volved in our Annual Legends Golf Classic which as always was another enormous success this year.
We are also delighted that our present senior management will remain in place for 2022 and wish them all success in their endeavours.
Our Children’s officer stated the importance of all coaches completing their Garda Vetting and Safeguarding Courses. Contact Annemarie with any queries.
Ger Hayes was also mentioned for his contribution of collecting money towards the Limerick GAA Development draw down through the years. We had one winner this year when John Cooney swooped the top prize of €10,000 .
