SOUTH LIBERTIES CLUB NOTES

Club Senior Championship
Our Senior Hurling championship campaign began last Thursday evening in the LIT Gaelic Grounds where our men had a good start by overcoming Blackrock on a score-line of
South Liberties 4-19 to Blackrock 0-15.
Blackrock opened the scoring with the first point on the 26th second but before the 1st minute was up, Liberties got a free, which was duly taken and scored by our goalkeeper, two time All Star, Anthony Nash. Blackrock were awarded a penalty on the 8th minute but sent it wide. Barry Cooney and Brian Garry got 2 points from play, before a huge assist from All Ireland champion Barry Nash set up Brian Garry for Liberties first goal. Blackrock got 2 more points in this first quarter, one from a free, while Liberties men got 4 more – Mikey Keane 2, Barry Cooney 2, and Ken Byrnes 1 from a free.
Blackrock went on to score 5 points (1 from a free) in the 2nd quarter while Barry Cooney struck his 3rd point, Ken Byrnes converting another free and a first long range free from Barry Nash. Barry’s cousin Anthony made a super save on the 26th minute to leave the half time score South Liberties 1-10 to Blackrock 0-8.
Again, Anthony opened the second half with a long range free struck superbly between the posts, followed within a minute by Barry Nash’s second point. Brian Ryan came on as a blood sub for Mikey Keane and got Liberties another great point. Brian Garry got Liberties 2nd goal on the 42nd minute followed 30 seconds later by Ken Byrnes after an immense run through the Blackrock defence. Ken also got 2 points in this quarter with Anthony Nash recording his 3rd from placed balls. Blackrock notched up 6 points in this third quarter, 4 of which were from frees. The Kilfinane Club could only score 1 point in the final quarter, with Anthony Nash yet again saving another attempt on goal. South Liberties Sub Brendan Mc Sweeney struck the net and Liberties 4th goal on the 61st minute, while Ken Byrnes finished his tally with 2 more placed balls and another point from Barry Cooney leaving Liberties with a 16 point win. Blackrock had an abundance of wides, most of which can be credited to the perseverance of Liberties hard working backs. Up next for Liberties will be “The Bouncers” Garryspillane in two weeks’ time.

PITCH DEVELOPMENT
Our pitch development has progressed immensely over the last few weeks. Great credit due to those people working hard voluntarily behind the scenes. We must now insist that no dogs be allowed roam free on our facilities and if on a lead, please clean up after your pet. We have noticed a lot of dog excrement lately and this is hindering training for all age groups. Please leave your dog at home or “SCOOP THE POOP”.
PARISH LOTTO.
Our Parish Lotto is at last up and running again since last week where we had 3 Club members winning lucky dips. Congratulations David O Neill, Brid Lang and Rosemary Carey. The next draw will take place on Tuesday September 7th in The Cats Cradle so don’t forget to get your numbers in and help support the club.
LEAVING CERT RESULTS
Congratulations to all our members who received their results last week. We hope the future holds everything you dream of and remember there are loads of doors to chose from, no matter what entrance you decide to take. And there is always your local club in Dooley Park to let off some steam and meet your mates.
