LOOK BACK ON SOUTH GAA ROUND UP 2015

SENIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP

The Senior Hurling Championship in 2015 was once again very attractive as clubs prepared for the County Championship with two Quarter Finals and Semi Finals, which included the four Senior clubs, Bruff, Croom, Effin and Kilmallock with Intermediate Championship finalists Dromin/Athlacca and Knockainey. In the first Quarter Final holders Kilmallock overcame their neighbours Effin in Bruff on Sunday 17th. May by 3.14 to 1.13 while on Sunday 7th. June in Kilmallock, Knockainey defeated Croom in the second Quarter Final by 1.17 to 0.12. The Semi Final pairings saw Knockainey meet Dromon Athlacca in a repeat of the Intermediate Championship Final where Knockainey were once again winners by 0.20 to 0.14 in Bruff on Saturday 13th. June while the following day Sunday 14th. June, Bruff defeated Kilmallock in Hospital by 0.23 to 2.12 to reach the final. On Sunday 9th. August there was a good crowd in Hospital to witness neighbours Bruff and Knockainey contest a much anticipated decider and it was Bruff who prevailed to win the South Senior Hurling Championship Title by 2.17 to 2.10.

INTERMEDIATE HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP

Nine teams played in the Intermediate Championship, Blackrock, Bruree, Dromin/Athlacca, Garryspillane, Glenroe, Hospital/Herbertstown, Kilmallock, Knockainey and Staker Wallace., The Championship commenced on Saturday 14 March when Bruree met Hospital/Herbertstown in Bruff in the Preliminary Round, the game was abandoned owing to a player injury and was refixed for Friday 27th. in Kilbreedy where Bruree scored a 1.21 to 1.08 win to go into the Quarter Final. In the Quarter Finals, Garryspillane defeated Blackrock by 1.20 to 2.11 in Kilbreedy on Thursday 19th. March, Knockainey defeated Glenroe by 2.11 to 0.09 in Mick Neville Park on Wednesday 25th. March while on Saturday 28th. March Kilmallock defeated Stakers Wallace by 4.08 to 1.14 in Bruff, the following day at the same venue, Dromin Athlacca defeated Bruree 2.21 to 1.12. The Semi Final pairings saw Dromin Athlacca defeating Kilmallock on Wednesday 22nd. April in Kilfinane and Knockainey defeating Garryspillane on Sunday 10th. May in Kilmallock, to reach the final which was played on Sunday 17th May in Bruff where Knockainey were crowned South Intermediate Hurling Champions by virtue of a 4.19 to 1.17 win.

JUNIOR ‘A’ HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP

Five teams played in the championship, played on a league system, Bruff, Castletown/Ballyagran, Croom, Kilmallock and Staker Wallace, and after some very good games, Castletown/ Ballyagran and Staker Wallace qualified for the Final which was played in front of a fine crowd, which was part of a double header, in Bruff on Sunday 13th. September which ended in a draw, 2.08 each. The replay was also played as a double header with the Junior ’B’ Hurling Championship final in Kilfinane the following Saturday 19th. September in front of a fine crowd once again, witnessed Staker Wallace win by a two point margin and Capture The Staker Wallace Cup and South Junior ‘A’ Hurling Championship Title on a score line of 1.15 to 1.13.

JUNIOR ‘B’ HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP

This championship commenced on Friday 10th. July, with nine teams participating, Bruree, Camogue Rovers, Dromin/Athlacca, Knockainey and Glenroe in Group ‘A’, while Blackrock, Effin, Garryspillane and Stakers Wallace were in Group ‘B‘ After fifteen games played, it was Bruree and Camogue Rovers that qualified for the decider. Bruree were crowned South Junior ’B’ Hurling Champions in Kilfinane on Saturday 19th. September when they scored a 1.17 to 0.14 win played as part a double header with the Junior ‘A’ Hurling Championship Final replay.

UNDER 21 ‘A’ & ‘B’ HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP

Six teams, Blackrock, Bruff, Garryspillane, Killacolla Gaels, Knockainey and Tory Gaels,took part in the Under 21 Hurling Championship on a league system . The Championship commenced on Saturday 7th. March and after some very well contested games Bruff and Tory Gaels reached the ‘A’ Final played on Friday 10th. April in Ballyagran where the Tory Gaels won the South Under 21 ‘A’ Hurling Championship title winning by 1.16 to 0.17 in a very well contested decider.. The ‘B’ Final played on Sunday 12th. April in Bruff brought Garryspillane and Killacolla Gaels into opposition and after a very exciting it was Killacolla Gaels side that emerged victorious by 0.16 to 1.07 to be crowned South Under 21 ‘B‘ Hurling Champions.

MINOR ‘A’ & ‘B’ HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP

Six teams played in the Minor Hurling championship on a league basis, Ballyhoura Gaels, Bruff, Garryspillane, Killacolla Gaels, Hospital/Herbertstown and Knockainey, with the top two teams to qualify for the ‘A’ final and third and fourth placed would meet in the ‘B’ final. After some great games witnessed in the championship, Garryspillane and Bruff qualified for the ‘A’ Final which Garrysilllane won atinj Kilmallock on Saturday 5th. September by the narrowest of margins 2.14 to 2.13 to retain the South Minior ‘A‘ Hurling Championship, while on same afternoon Killacola Gaels took the ‘B‘ Chamionship title defeating Knockainey in a well contested final by 1.14 to 2.09.

JUNIOR ‘A’ HURLING LEAGUE

This year both the South and East joined up for a South/East Junior ‘A’; Hurling league which was administered by Coiste Luimni Theas assisted by Coiste Luimni Thiar and commenced on Saturday 25th. April, Bruff, Castletown/Ballyagran, Croom, Kilmallock, and Staker Wallace from the South while Ahane, Ballybricken/Bohermore, Doon, Kilteely/Dromkeen and Pallasgreen from the East participated. After twenty one games played in two groups, Croom and Staker Wallace qualified for the South Final which was played on Saturday 6th. June in Bruff where Croom were winners by 2.09 to 0.12 to become South Junior ‘A’ Hurling League Champions. My Thanks to the East Board and all Clubs who participated for their co operation in this League which was indeed a great success and Thanks also to Coiste Condae Luimni for granting the permission to run the League.

JUNIOR ‘B’ HURLING LEAGUE

This year nine teams participated in a very well contested league, Blackrock, Bruree, Camogure Rovers, Castletown/Ballyagran and Glenroe in Group ‘A‘ while Dromin/Athalacca, Effin, Staker Wallace and Knockainey, played in Group ‘B‘ , with the top two team in each Group qualifying for the Seni Finals, Castletown Ballyagran and Garryspillane withdrew during the league leaving just five teams. Blackrock overcame Effin while Glenroe overcame Dromin/Athlacca in the Semi Finals to reach the fdecider where Blackrock retained South Junior ’B’ Hurling League Title completing a Three in a Row, in Bruff on Saturday 6th. June in a very well contested game winning by 1.16 to 2.11.

MINOR HURLING LEAGUE

Four teams Ballyhoura Gaels, Garryspillane, Killacolla Gaels and Hospital/Herbertstown took part in the Minor Hurling league which got underway on Saturday 4th. April. Garryspillane retained the South Minor Hurling League title when they defeated Killacola Gaels by 1.14 to 0.04 in the Final played on Sunday 10th. May in Kilfinane.

MINOR HURLING (13 a Side) COMPETITION

Five teams entered this competition, Blackrock, Bruree, Croom, Dromin/Athlacca and Glenroe, Glenroe and Bruree qualified for the final which was played on Sunday 28th. June in Effin where Bruree lifted the title winning a very well contested final by 2.15 to 2.07

SENIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

The Final of the 2015 Senior Football Championship, was played on Sunday 23rd. August in Hospital where Ballylanders played Bruff who were the Intermediate Championship winners, and it was Ballylanders who regained the South Senior Football Championship title when they recorded a 1.13 to 10.11 win.

INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

In the Intermediate Football Championship five clubs participated. In the opening Quarter Final game, Bruff and Galtee Gaels played out a draw in Knocklong on Friday 3rd. April, in the replay on Sunday 12th. April it was Bruff that emerged to the Semi Final on a 2.10 to 1.09 in Kilfinane. In the Semi Finals Ballylanders defeated Hospital/Herbertstown in Galbally on Wednesday 1st. April by 2.16 to 0.07, while on Sunday 19th. April in Ballylanders, Bruff defeated Galbally by 4.12 to 0.14 to set up a final meeting with Ballylanders which was played in Kilfinane on Sunday 17th. May where Bruff were 2.10 to 1.05 winners to lift the South Intermediate Football Championship title.

JUNIOR ‘A’ FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Four teams, Ballylanders, Bruree, Croom and Galtee Gaels contested the Junior ‘A’ Football Championship played on a league basis, After some good games as well as a number of walk over’s, Ballylanders and Galtee Gaels qualified for the final, in a repeat of the league decider, this time Galtee Gaels came out on top win the title in a very well contested game played in front of a good crowd at Kilfinane on Sunday 13th. September to win by 2.13 to 0.05 and were crowned South Junior ‘A’ Football Champions 2015.

JUNIOR ‘B’ FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

In the Junior ‘B’ Football championship seven teams participated, Castletown Ballyagran, Effin, Galbally in Group ‘A’ . Banogue, Camogue Rovers Galtee Gaels, and Knockainey in Group ’B’ played on a league basis in two groups, Banogue and Camogue Rovers reached the final and it was Camogue Rovers who took the South Junior ‘B’ Football Championship title in the game played on Sunday 4th. October in Bruff by 1.10 to 1.09.

UNDER 21 ‘A’ & ‘B’ FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
(Sponsored by Bulgaden Castle) As there was no Under 21 Football Championship in this Division in 2014, there was an effort made to have a championship this year, and after much comings and goings we did have one however, the number of clubs that participated was four, Ballylanders, Galbally, Galtee Gaels and Knockainey while only one club from the Division played in the County Premier Championship. The Championship got underway on Sunday 18th. October and after some very good games it concluded on Sunday 22nd. November, with Galbally taking the ‘A‘ Title defeating Ballylanders in a very exciting and well contested Final played in Kilmallock, while on the same day in Knocklong, Galtee Gaels took the ‘B‘ Title with a good win over Knockainey. Both Galbally and Galtee Gaels went on to capture the County Titles.

MINOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

In the Minor Football Championship four teams entered Bruff, Galbally, Knockainey and St John’s. Bruff and Knockainey played in the ‘B’ Championship on Sunday 27th. September in Knocklong as a part of a double header, where Knockainey proved too good to win by 7.13 to 1.06 to win the South Minor ‘B’ Football Championship. In a repeat of the League final Galbally and St. John’s contested the ‘A’ Championship Final which ended in a draw Galbally 0.09 St. John‘s 1.06, the replay was played on Friday 9th. October in Kilbreedy and in a very exciting and close game it was Galbally that emerged winners by the narrowest of margins 1.09 to 0.11, to win the South Minor ‘A’ Football Championship.

JUNIOR ‘A’ FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Five teams Ballylanders, Blackrock, Croom, Camogue Rovers and Galtee Gaels entered the Junior ‘A’ Football league. Unfortunately a number of walkovers and a withdrawl did not enhance the League. Neighbours Ballylanders and Galtee Gaels reached the final where Ballylanders were winners in a very well contested decider by 1.12 to 1.10 played in Kilfinane on Tuesday 9th. June, to be crowned South Junior ‘A’ Football League Champions 2015.

JUNIOR ‘B’ FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Six teams, Banogue Camogue Rovers, Castletown/Ballyagran, Galbally, Galtee Gaels and Knockainey played in the Junior ‘B’ Football League, with Camogue Rovers and Galtee Gaels reaching the Final played on Saturday 23rd. May on Kilfinane where the sides played a draw Camogue Rovers 2.07 Galtee Gaels 1.10, the replay was played at the same venue one week later on Saturday 30th. May where Galtee Gaels won the South Junior ’B’ Football League Title 2015 by 4.08 to 2.04.

MINOR FOOTBALL LEAGUE

The Minor Football League had three teams at the commencement of the competition, Galbally, Killacolla Gaels and St Johns, The opening game on Wednesday 22nd April saw Galbally defeat St John’s in Hospital by 1.09 to 2.03. In Round Two St John’s got a walk over Killacolla Gaels who also failed to field in their game v Galbally who were now qualified for the final where they met St. John’s on Wednesday 13th. in Knocklong which saw St. John’s score a 1.14 to 2.09 victory to win the South Minor Football League..

MINOR FOOTBALL (13 a Side) COMPETITION

Three teams played in the Minor Football (13 a side Competition) which commenced on Wednesday 19th. April, when Croom defeated Ballylanders by 1.10 to 1.08. Ballylanders overcame Galtee Gaels in Round Two, while in Round Three Galtee Gaels received a walk over from Croom, who lost to Ballylanders in a play off on Wednesday 1st. July by 1.12 to 2.06 in Knocklong. The final played on Tuesday 7th. In Knocklong brought neighbours Ballylanders and Galtee Gaels and Ballylanders emerged winners b on a score line of 1.14 to 1.0 5 to reverse the result of the 2014 decider.
