It was a lively night of Electric Sigerson Cup action with UCC and TU Dublin advancing to the semi-final stage.

UCC goalkeeper Dylan Foley made three penalty shootout saves as Billy Morgan’s team eventually reached the last four.

Mark Cronin netted the decisive penalty for UCC, who emerged 3-2 winners in the shootout.

Cathail O’Mahony skipped clear to drill a delightful early goal for UCC, who led 1-3 to 0-3 at half-time.

After the restart, though, it remained competitive with St Mary’s persevering.

Mary’s trailed by three points deep into stoppage time when Mattie Óg McGleenan mined an opportunistic goal to level at 1-7 each.

Extra-time was necessary and there was plenty of late drama with Mary’s goalkeeper Charlie Smyth steering over a 45 in the closing stages.

That score edged Mary’s in front, but following a goalmouth scramble UCC earned a free which was converted by O’Mahony to force a shootout with Foley the hero.

TU Dublin delivered a dynamic display to overcome UCD in Grangegorman.

Ben Holden, who struck seven points, and Darragh Campion were effective for a well organised TU Dublin.

The semi-final pairings were also drawn this evening with UCC facing TU Dublin, while DCU Dóchas Éireann meet UL.

DCU Dóchas Éireann 3-14 SETU Carlow 1-19

SETU Waterford secured a vital 1-19 to 0-20 Electric Ireland Fitzgibbon Cup win over MTU Cork.

The two outfits had suffered losses against University of Galway previously so this match carried real significance.

A goal from Padraig Fitzgerald guided SETU Waterford into a 1-11 to 0-9 interval advantage.

After the restart MTU Cork narrowed the gap, but SETU Waterford, with Reuben Halloran sharp from frees, prevailed.

DCU defeated an Eoin Cody inspired SETU Carlow by 3-14 to 1-19.

Cody finished with a 1-12 haul, but DCU claimed the victory as Conor Kehoe notched a late insurance goal for DCU Dóchas Éireann.
