Rathkeale GAA Club Notes:

Junior A Hurlers in County Final:
Heartiest of congratulations to our Junior hurlers, who beat Castletown Ballygran, in the County semi-final, last Sunday in Dromcollogher, and now advance to the final. The two sides already met in the group stages, with Castletown Ballygran winning by 3 points on that occasion. However, this was Rathkeale’s day as they fired a goal mid-way in the first half, from Eoghan O’Connor, after good link up play in the forward line. Rathkeale entered the half time interval leading on a scoreline of 1-06 to 0-07, having had a penalty from Niall Sheahan saved by the Castletown Ballyagran goalkeeper. Both sides battled hard in the second half, with Rathkeale conceding a goal, which took a slight deflection from a long range free. There was very little between the sides from there, with the sides level after 60 minutes on a scoreline of 1-11 apiece. The game entered extra time, with both sides firing over 3 more points each, to leave the scoreline on 1-14 each. Penalties loomed, and even though we failed to score from our previous 3 penalties throughout the campaign, we managed to score 4 in a row, with Darren Jones the ultimate hero on the day. Darren saved the 3rd and 4th penalties, while also converting the winning penalty. Full credit to the team and management, who are now busy preparing for the County Final, which will be against stiff opposition from Monaleen. Date and time have yet to be confirmed, but it will be the weekend of October 25th. The very best of luck to the players and management, the community and Rathkeale are behind you all.

Intermediate Footballers – Best of Luck:
After topping the group stages with nine points, our Intermediate footballers have advanced to the semi-final, which is scheduled for Saturday, October 19th, when the boys in blue will play Claughaun. Throw in time for the Askeaton fixture is 1.00pm. Best of luck to the team and management with their continued preparations.
