Rathkeale GAA Club Notes:
RIP – Karen Fahy (nee Hourigan):
Deepest sympathies to both the Fahy and Hourigan families, on the very sad, and untimely passing of Karen Fahy (nee Hourigan), who sadly passed away recently. Karen was a fantastic member, supporter, and sponsor to Rathkeale GAA Club, and enjoyed nothing better than supporting Rathkeale and Limerick over the years, no doubt both teams gave her great joy.
Re-united with her brothers Shane and Dan once again, and her father Jack, the community and parish of Rathkeale are thinking of both families, and of course our GAA teammate, Jack Fahy, during this difficult time. May Karen Rest in Peace.
Junior A Hurlers Advance to the Championship Semi Final:
Well done to our Junior Hurlers, who advanced to the Woodlands House Hotel County Junior A Championship Semi Finals, after edging out Templeglantine in a fiercely fought contest, in Coolyroe last Saturday. Under biblical weather conditions, it was almost an impossible day for hurling, however it was Rathkeale that settled the quicker and hit three early, unanswered points, two from Patrick Willmott from placed balls. Templeglantine slowly crept back into the game, however with a goal from the edge of the square from Evan Lenihan, it was Rathkeale who led at the half time interval on a scoreline of 1-04 to 0-05. The second half was a much more even affair, with scores from play coming at a premium, with both free takers keeping the scoreboard ticking over. In an exciting finish, the scoreline read 1-10 to 0-13, pushing the game to extra time. The weather didn’t improve, in fact it got worse, however Rathkeale ploughed on and ended up on the right side of the scoreline, 1-13 to 0-14. The boys in blue now advance on to the semi-finals, Castletown Ballyagran will provide the opposition on Sunday, October 13th, in Feenagh, with a throw in time of 12pm. Best of luck to everyone involved, give it your very best.
