RATHKEALE GAA CLUB NOTES

Intermediate Footballers Advance to the County Semi-Final
Our Intermediate footballers maintained their unbeaten start to the Championship season, when they came out on top against Drom Broadford last Thursday evening in Kilbreedy. On a well
presented pitch and with only a slight cross field breeze there was no excuse for poor football. It was the men from Rathkeale that opened the scoring with a well taken point from Mikey Morrissey in
the opening minute. Eoin Kelly doubled Rathkeale’s tally on the 4th minute before Kevin Noonan of Drom Broadford and Barry Coleman of Rathkeale exchanged points. Eoin Kally added his second point on the 8th minute, while Josh O’Connor added another point to leave the scoreline at 0-05 to 0-
01 at the 1st water break. Darragh O’Grady added one further point on the 21st minute, to leave the score reading 0-06 to 0-01 at the interval.
Upon the resumption, the teams were more evenly matched with Derry McCarthy and Kevin Noonan firing over for Drom Broadford, before Kevin Shanahan added a brace of points to Rathkeale’s tally. Drom Broadford added two further points through McCarthy and Fahy to leave the scores reading 0-09 to 0-05 at the 2nd water break. As play resumed, Darragh O’Grady fired over for
Rathkeale, while Sean O’Sullivan hit the net for Drom Broadford, in what was the only goal of the game on the 49th minute. Mikey Morrissey closed out the scoring with a further point to leave the
full time score reading 0-11 to 1-05. Rathkeale now advance to the Semi Final, when they take on Gerald Griffins. The game is currently scheduled for Newcastle West on October 16th with a throw in
time of 4.00pm. Well done to both the players and management and we’ll eagerly look forward to the Semi-Final!
Junior A Hurlers
It’s been a decent start for our Junior A Hurlers who have now made it two wins on the bounce after beating Ballybrown in Round 3 on a scoreline of 0-20 to 0-14. This puts us in a strong position of
advancing into the knock out stages.
Up next in round 4 is Killeedy, which will be played on Friday, October 1st. with a throw in time of 7.30pm in Mick Neville Park. Best of luck to all the players and management. County Junior A Hurling Championship Group 4
