RATHKEALE GAA CLUB NOTES
EirGrid Munster Football Championship – Adam Shanagher & Barry Coleman
Well done to the Limerick U20 Footballers on defeating Tipperary in the EirGrid Munster Football Championship last Wednesday evening in Mick Neville Park. In what was a terrible night for football, Limerick ran out worthy winners on a scoreline of 0-07 to 0-06.
Well done in particular to Adam Shanagher who captained the side, and of course Barry Coleman who kicked the winning point, you both have done the parish and town of Rathkeale proud. Limerick have now setup a tasty semi-final against the Kerry Kingpins which is currently scheduled for Wednesday night, February 26th, at 7.00pm in the LIT Gaelic Grounds. Best of luck to all.
West Limerick GAA Award Night
Congratulations to Barry Coleman, Barry Lenihan and Jimmy Langan who will be all accredited with well-deserved awards at the West Limerick GAA Awards on Friday Night in the Devon Inn. Barry Coleman won a West Intermediate Football All Star for his great contributions and consistent performances throughout the 2019 campaign.
Equally, Barry Lenihan enjoyed some outstanding performances that helped Croagh Kilfinny\Rathkeale enjoy some great success over the 2019 season, it was no surprise that he was awarded with a West U21 Hurling All Star.
Last but not least, heartiest congratulations to Jimmy Langan on his win of the West GAA Merit Award, we will add a few extra words to highlight the great contribution that Jimmy consistently makes to the Club. This comes as no great surprise to us all in Rathkeale GAA Club, as Jimmy has lead by example over the last number of decades and has been a great stalwart within the Club.
Jimmy has many great qualities which makes him a vital Clubman. The efforts he makes with GAA fundraisers is second to none, be it the Club Limerick Draw or the Rathkeale GAA Club Annual Christmas Draw, Jimmy always ensures that he is at the heart of them and helps raise vital monies for the Club.
These monies are invested into the teams or facilities, and Jimmy takes great pride in how the Bog Garden and surround facilities have developed year on year.
Jimmy takes great pride in supporting the various teams. It doesn’t matter if it’s an U10 blitz or our Intermediate footballers, Jimmy will normally be the first man through the turnstile to cheer on the team in blue and white, no matter how inclement the weather is. Jimmy has enjoyed the great successes of the Club over the last number of years where many of our teams have held trophies aloft.
Jimmy was awarded Rathkeale GAA Club Person of the Year in 2018, when he was awarded the Tom McNamara Memorial Cup. With that, it’s fantastic to see him go a step further today when he is awarded with the West GAA Merit Award. Well done Jimmy Langan, we hope to see you at many more games to come.
