Patrickswell GAA Club Notes:
Senior Hurlers:
Patrickswell bowed out of the County Championship after defeat to Ahane. Thomas O’Brien scored the opening point within thirty seconds, but Ahane responded with six consecutive points before Cian Lynch stopped their surge. The situation worsened when Ahane scored their first goal and two more points to eclipse Jack Kelleher’s point. After fifteen minutes, Patrickswell were 1-8 to 0-3 behind. Cian Fitzgerald, Jack Kelleher and Mark Carmody trimmed the deficit to five points before Ahane scored again. The next ten minutes were masterful from Patrickswell. Cian Lynch and Jack Kelleher scored points, before Diarmaid Byrnes smashed in a goal from a free. Patrickswell were now just 1-9 to 1-8 behind. Once again, Diarmaid Byrnes struck a free towards goal, which was saved by the goalkeeper and spun high into the air. Kevin O’Brien reacted quickly to hit the net from close range. Mark Carmody notched a point before the interval to cement a remarkable comeback of 2-9 to 1-9.
Ahane enjoyed a strong beginning to the second half and scored four straight points before Jordan Higgins stepped in to equalise at 2-10 to 1-13. Over the next ten minutes, Ahane edged ahead with four points in contrast to Jack Kelleher’s brace. There were 45 minutes gone and Ahane led by 1-17 to 2-12. The rate of scoring slowed down and Tom Morrissey’s quartet of points eclipsed points from Seanie O’Brien and Jack Kelleher. The final score was a 1-21 to 2-14 reverse.
Junior A Hurlers:
The Junior A hurlers were pipped in an enthralling match against Old Christians, which was dominated by the stiff breeze. The game started at a helter-skelter pace with Old Christians ahead by 0-4 to 0-3 after just five minutes (Dayle McDonagh 0-2 and Peter Harty). Patrickswell then scored two goals from Dayle McDonagh and Josh Carey within a minute to surge ahead. Fresh points from Josh Carey and Dayle McDonagh were cancelled out by Old Christians as Patrickswell held a 2-5 to 0-6 lead after fifteen minutes. The next ten minutes were instantly forgettable for Patrickswell. Old Christians experienced a purple patch with the breeze to plunder three goals and four points and built a 3-10 to 2-5 lead. Billy Earls and Dayle McDonagh added points, but Old Christians added a fourth goal and an extra point. At the interval, Patrickswell trailed by ten points at 4-11 to 2-7. With the wind at our backs, Patrickswell commenced the comeback. Five minutes later, we had slashed the arrears to six points (Josh Carey 0-2, Paudie Maher, Andrew Carroll and Kieran Long). Josh Carey’s goal and Thomas Nolan’s point had Old Christians under the cosh at 4-15 to 3-13 and set up a grand finale. Patrickswell scored the next four points from Billy Earls 0-2, Andrew Carroll and Peter Harty to trail by a solitary point at 4-15 to 3-17. Unfortunately, Old Christians closed out the match with a solid defensive performance and thwarted Patrickswell with a late point.
Minor Hurlers:
The Minor hurlers were eliminated from the Championship after losing to hosts St. Kieran’s. Dayle McDonagh scored the game’s first two points before St. Kieran’s secured six points in a row. Dayle McDonagh 0-2 and Rory Foley reduced the deficit by 0-7 to 0-5, but our hosts went on another spree of five straight points. Dayle McDonagh’s point on the cusp of half-time produced an interval score of 0-12 to 0-6.The start of the second half was dominated by Patrickswell, for whom Dayle McDonagh hit four points and Rory Foley another. By the 40th minute, we trailed by 0-14 to 0-11. Rory Foley 0-2 and Dayle McDonagh narrowed the disadvantage even more to 0-16 to 0-14. St. Kieran’s managed to rally themselves. They produced three points in the last ten minutes and held Patrickswell scoreless. The result was a 0-19 to 0-14 reverse.
Junior C Footballers:
Patrickswell entertain St. Senan’s on Sunday September 7 at 5.00pm in Patrickswell.
Club Lotto:
The Club Lotto jackpot on Monday August 25 was won by Tina Adams, who scooped €20,000. This week’s jackpot is €3,000.
