Patrickswell GAA Club Notes:
Minor Hurlers:
The Minor hurlers began their Championship with a thorough victory over Southside Gaels. Dayle McDonagh scored a goal within forty seconds and Ryan Foley notched a second goal in the 9th minute. After the first quarter, Patrickswell led by 2-4 to 0-0 with the points coming from Dayle McDonagh, Ryan Foley, Paddy Gardiner and John Murray. The onslaught continued for the remainder of the first half and yielded a third goal scored by Dayle McDonagh and seven points (Dayle McDonagh 0-3, John Murray 0-3 and Paddy McGrath). The interval score was 3-11 to 0-0.
Southside Gaels emerged into the contest with two points before the 40th minute, but Patrickswell added five points from John Murray, Paddy McGrath, Leon Kinsella and Dayle McDonagh 0-2 to build a 3-16 to 0-2 lead. Another six points in ten minutes (Dayle McDonagh 0-5 and Rory Foley) increased the lead to 3-22 to 0-2. Southside Gaels scored the only point of the last ten minutes, but Patrickswell cruised to a 3-22 to 0-3 victory.
Camogie:
Patrickswell lost the Senior County League final to an experienced Ahane team. Our opponents scored four early points, before Sophie Carey and Emma Barry responded with a quick brace. Ahane devastated the ‘Well with two goals and three points to establish a 2-7 to 0-2 advantage on 15 minutes. Ciara Barry’s goal rallied the troops and Patrickswell dominated the rest of the first half. Two Leah O’Carroll points and other scores from Roisin O’Brien & Sarah Fitzgerald made the half-time score 2-8 to 1-6.
The first ten minutes of the second half were level pegging. Both sides exchanged three points apiece (Leah O’Carroll 0-2 and Sarah Fitzgerald). The game ended as a contest when Ahane notched another rapid goal and two points to lead by 3-13 to 1-9. Leah O’Carroll added two more points before the final whistle, but Ahane won by 3-16 to 1-11. Hard luck to the players and management.
Club Lotto:
The Club Lotto draw on Tuesday July 9 was not won. The numbers drawn were 5, 9, 24 and 27. The bonus number was 15. The €50 Lucky Dips were won by Shauna Coleman and K. O’Reilly, while the €20 prizes were claimed by R. Delaney, Ciaran Crowe, Megan, Josh & Ben, John Conway, Mike McElligott and Sean Ahern. This week’s jackpot is €12,200.
