Patrickswell GAA Club Notes:
Senior Hurlers:
The County Championship group stage concludes with a match against Kildimo-Pallaskenry in Kilmallock on Saturday September 23 at 5.00pm. The outcome will decide our possible route towards a semi-final or quarter-final.
Junior A Hurlers:
The Junior A hurlers edged past Staker Wallace to secure a crucial victory in the County Championship. The opening ten minutes were shaded 0-4 to 0-3 by Patrickswell as Eoin Harmon struck three frees and Billy Earls scored a point from play. Staker Wallace’s first goal was quickly nullified when Eoin Harmon’s long range free took a deflection into the Staker Wallace net. Then Cian Gorman and Eoin Harmon’s points gave Patrickswell a 1-6 to 1-3 lead by the 20th minute. Our opponents scored two points before a long-range Eoin Harmon effort produced yet another own goal. The interval score was 2-6 to 1-5 to the ‘Well.
The teams cancelled each other out in the opening stages of the second half, with a trio of points apiece (Conor Robinson 0-2 and Darragh Ahern). Staker Wallace scored a second goal to slash the lead to a single point, but they failed to score for another ten minutes. In the meantime, Eoin Harmon added two frees. There were ten minutes left and Patrickswell led by 2-11 to 2-8. The rate of scoring was extremely low, but Josh Carey’s kicked goal in the 57th minute ended Staker Wallace resistance. Patrickswell were relieved to secure a 3-11 to 2-10 win. The final championship match is on Sunday September 24 at 5.00pm in Kilmallock.
U13 Hurlers:
The U-13 hurlers suffered heartbreak with a narrow defeat in the Division 3 Championship Final against hot favourites Pallasgreen. Thomas Lynch and Evan Hayes scored points to cancel out the East boys. Jack Kelly’s persistence produced Patrickswell’s opening goal and established a 1-2 to 0-3 lead on 18 minutes. A further Harry O’Brien point made the half-time score 1-3 to 0-4.
Our second goal from Evan Hayes and two Thomas Lynch points had Patrickswell 2-5 to 0-6 ahead with seven minutes left. Unfortunately we could not muster another score and Pallasgreen plundered two devastating goals in three minutes. The final score was a cruel 2-6 to 2-5 defeat in a game that Patrickswell might have won. Hard luck to the players and management for a solid and brave performance.
