Patrickswell GAA Club Notes:
Senior Hurlers:
Patrickswell overcame Ahane in the third match of the County Championship. Jordan Higgins gave the ‘Well a perfect start with a 2nd minute goal, before Tom Morrissey claimed Ahane’s first point. Further scores from John Kirby, Cian Fitzgerald and Cian Lynch allowed Patrickswell a 1-3 to 0-1 lead by the 10th minute. Tom Morrissey’s trio of frees trimmed our advantage to two points, but the ‘Well surged ahead with consecutive points from Aaron Gillane, Diarmaid Byrnes, Mark Carmody and Jordan Higgins. On the stroke of half-time, Ahane pulled a point back. The interval score was 1-7 to 0-5.
The initial ten minutes of the second half were keenly contested. Aaron Gillane scored a second Patrickswell goal and another point, while Ahane notched four points in reply. There were twenty minutes to play and we held a 2-8 to 0-9 advantage. Another point from Tom Morrissey narrowed the gap, but Patrickswell replied with two fresh points. By the 45th minute, the score was 2-10 to 0-10. The next five minutes were uncomfortable for the ‘Well as Ahane scored a goal and three points against our four points (Kevin O’Brien, Cian Lynch, Jack Kelleher and Aaron Gillane). With five minutes remaining, Patrickswell led by 2-14 to 1-13. Paddy Morrissey’s goal for Ahane blew the game wide open and set up the grandstand finale.
