Last Sunday night, the Pallasgreen GAA club held the much-anticipated launch of its Development Plan at the community centre, drawing a large and diverse audience from all sectors and organizations within the local community. The event marked the beginning of a new chapter for the club, one that promises to bring expansive new facilities that will benefit not just the GAA club but the entire community. The evening was kicked off by the Chairman of the club, Jimmy McMahon, who provided the introduction and welcomed everyone to this important and exciting occasion. In his speech, Jimmy highlighted the club’s simple yet ambitious goal: to ensure Pallasgreen GAA provides a safe, enjoyable, and sustainable environment for all involved. He stressed the growing need for facilities that can accommodate the expanding club and its community.
“This significant event marks the beginning of an exciting new venture that will shape the future of our club and help us move into the next generation,” McMahon said. He acknowledged the tremendous amount of hard work that had gone on behind the scenes to bring the club to this stage. Last year, the club formed a dedicated Development Committee, led by John Paul Stokes and Seamus Kirby, to create a five-year plan aimed at enhancing facilities. With substantial progress made in the past 12 months, the club took the first official step in bringing their vision to life during this launch. Pallasgreen GAA is proud to support 32 registered teams across a range of sports, including Hurling, Football, Ladies Gaelic Football (LGFC), and Camogie, with over 460 individuals, including men, women, and children, actively participating. This incredible growth is a testament to the strength of the community and the unwavering commitment of everyone involved. The club has come a long way since its origins in 1974, when the late Canon Lee, under the leadership of the community council, acquired the land for the current playing pitch. The pitch was officially opened in 1976, and since then, the club has made significant improvements, such as adding dressing rooms, an astroturf facility, and a ball wall. However, the playing surface itself has remained unchanged for many years.
With the growth of the club and the increasing number of participants, it has become evident that the playing surface needs to be developed to a high standard, one that can support the needs of all teams year-round. The launch of the Development Plan signifies a major step toward making this vision a reality. Following the chairman’s introduction, the audience was treated to a video presentation that illustrated the plans for the future of the club. The video was met with widespread approval, with many in the audience expressing their admiration for the plans and the exciting potential they hold for both the club and the wider community. John Paul Stokes, Chairman of the Development Committee, provided an in-depth overview of the various aspects of the development plan, while Seamus Kirby spoke in detail about the financial situation and grant opportunities that would help fund the project. A special guest at the event was local Councillor Noreen Stokes, who shared her support for the project and expressed the importance of the development for the local area. The club also encouraged the community to get involved by supporting, donating, and sponsoring the project, with all relevant information now available on the club’s social media platforms. This launch represents an exciting new chapter for Pallasgreen GAA, and with the collective support of the community, the vision for a modern, expansive facility will soon become a reality. Together, the club and community are poised to take the next step forward, building a sustainable future for generations to come.
