Pallasgreen GAA Club Notes:

Intermediate Football Championship:
The Intermediate footballers had no joy in their third round game of the championship when they took on Claughaun in Fedamore last Friday evening. In trying conditions, they were behind at the break 0-10 to 0-1. The second period was an improvement but the first half performance told at the finish as the city side ran out winners by 0-14 to 0-3.
Ladies Football:
The ladies footballers travelled into the city suburbs last Sunday to take on Monaleen in round three of the Junior championship. Depleted of a number of key players, with swirling conditions, they played gallantly in the first half and were behind by 2-3 to 2-6. The second proved more difficult as the home side were relentless with their attacking game and ran out winners by 3-15 to 3-5. Team; Grainne Culbert, Aoibhe Rodahan, Hannah Dillon, Lauren Franklin, Ciara McNamara, Aine Looby, Catriona Dillon, Grace Leaden, Cliodhna Ryan, Sinead McGuinness, Eabha Hourigan, Ella Connolly, Emily Franklin, Caoimhe Butler, Roisin McCarthy. Subs; Lisa McGuinness, Shauna Murphy, Aoife Purcell, Jessica Gleeson, Leah Butler, Roisin O’Connell.
U20 Hurling Championship:
It was the first outing of the year for the U20 hurlers and it proved a successful one after a great tussle with South Side Gaels in Pallas last Sunday Afternoon. Pallas led at the break by 2-10 to 2-7 after been dominant for long periods. The second period the South Side Gaels came more into the game and at one stage led by a point, but Pallas found another gear to romp home on a scoreline of 3-15 to 2-11. Team; Z Murphy Ryan, Hang Min, P O’Dea, D Fealy, D O’Connor, N McNamara, C O’Shaughnessy, R Corbett, S Pearse, M McKenna, S McCormack, E Pearse, E McCarthy, T Hourigan, P Phelan. Subs; C Cosgrave, A McMahon, M Looby, A M Ryan.
Limerick Academy:
Well done to the Limerick U14, U15 and U16 hurling teams and especially our own local players that took part in the annual tournament in Waterford and Tipperary last Saturday. Daire Long and Cathal McKenna were part of the U15 team that won the Arrabawn B tournament in SETU, Waterford as they beat Cork 5-15 to 1-5. In the U14 Tony Forrestal tournament in Mount Sion, Sean McNamara was a member of the team that beat Cork 4-12 to 3-6. Well done to all involved.

Sympathies:
The club was all the poorer last week following the passing of one of its greatest stalwarts Willie Shanahan. His name will forever be synonymous with hurling excellence, earning the title of “The Prince of Goalkeepers.” Those who watched him play will remember the iconic sight of Willie, cap on his head, dragging his hurley along the ground before unleashing one of his signature puckouts, unsettling defenders and setting up mighty scores for his team. Willie was a key figure in the legendary Pallas hurling team of the 1960s. He proudly helped secure the County Junior Championship in 1968 and played a pivotal role in leading the team to the Senior Final in 1969—an extraordinary achievement that still resonates within the club’s history. He was a selector with Pallas in 1988 when the junior hurlers won the county championship after a lapse of 20 years. He was awarded a Sean Ghaeil award several years ago for his outstanding service to the GAA. His absence will be deeply felt by his family, his beloved GAA club, and the entire community. We extend our deepest sympathies to his wife Anne, Children Bridget, Eimear, Ruth, Patrick, Joseph and Aidan extended family relatives and friends.
