Oola GAA & LGFA are delighted to have officially received healthy club status following their 18 month participation in the GAA healthy clubs project RUN IN CONJUNCTION WITH healthy ireland and Irish life,
Over the course of the project
we created a community survey on what was needed and wanted,
We developed a quarterly healthy clubs newsletter, we have coordinated and set up a very active gaelic4mothers & others group,
We have made our gaa grounds a smoke & vape free grounds,
The club executive reinforced & updated our substance use policy and as part of this we ran a workshop on drug education+awareness delivered by “Alexs adventure”
We developed along with our club executive a critical incident response plan.
We appointed a fixture assistant .
We supported Oola defib group and took part in defib training.
We participated as a club in January & February in the Irish life every step counts challange, In March we ran a very successful initiative called.”March for a million” we ran an April walking challange and for May we did May Movers and for June we signed up to Get Ireland walking,
We are currently trialling Gaa social rounders for the Summer months,
We have run very successful fundraisers ,in 2020 we did dash to Croke park & back in aid of grow mental health services and circle of friends, at Christmas 2020 we did Team up for Theo and Hope for Holly a fantastic morning was had by all.
May 2021 we ran Dash for Darragh for Local boy Darragh Ryan,
We have also supported Down syndrome odd socks day.
We are hugely grateful to all who have taken part in and supported our healthy club initiatives over the last 18 months, We look forward to getting official recognition at a presentation in Croke park in November,
