On this date, 20 November 1898, Limerick represented by Kilfinane defeated Kilkenny represented by Tullaroan in the 1897 All Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Final played in Tipperary, to bring the first Hurling Title to the County.
Travel arrangements were a little different in those days, A long car, drawn by two horses took the team to Tipperary from Kilfinane while players on the team from Croom and Ballingarry with their supporters made their way to Limerick Junction by train and were were transported into Tipperary by jarvey cars, while players and supporters from Cappamore made their own way to Tipperary .
Supporters travelled by Horse and Donkey drawn cars from early morning.
