Sunday 15th. July 2018, Semple Stadium Thurles was the venue for the All Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Quarter Final when Limerick met Kilkenny in front of 18,596 spectators.

A very close encounter was expected and that is how it worked out, Limerick lead at interval by a three point margin, 0.15 to 0.12. The second half like the first, produced more excellent play from both sides. With five minutes remaining, Kilkenny scored the only goal of the game from Richie Hogan to take a two point lead, but Limerick replied with three points from Tom Morrissey, Peter Casey and Shane Dowling to go into a one point lead before Kilkenny had the equalisher from Richie Leahy. Up stepped Tom Morrissey to score a great point from play to restore the lead and Aaron Gillane pointed a free before the full time whistle to give Limerick the win and a place in the All Ireland Semi Final two weeks later in Croke Park.
