The Gaelic Grounds was the venue on a cold March Monday, (the game having been deferred the previous day, owing to frost & snow)
Limerick qualified for the Allianz Hurling League Semi Final when they defeated Clare when history was made in a sudden death free taking competition decided the outcome, as the sides finished level Limerick 3.16 Clare 0.25 (after 70 minutes play) and after two periods of extra time the sides were still deadlocked Limerick 4.21 Clare 0.33. So for the first time a Sudden Death Free taking Competition was held with the frees from the 65m line, and it was Colin Ryan who scored the winner to give Limerick historic win (0.07 to 0.06) and a place in the Semi Final.
