Old Christians GAA Club Notes:
In Memoriam:
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Florence Hartigan, beloved wife of our esteemed clubman, founder, and friend, Bernie.
The officers, players, and members of Old Christians GAA extend our deepest sympathies and sincere condolences to Bernie and the Hartigan family at this difficult time.
Florence will be deeply missed by all who knew her, and our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis.
Junior Hurling Championship Quarter-final:
Old Christians advanced to the semi-finals of the Woodlands House Hotel County Junior A Hurling Championship with a resounding 1-17 to 0-13 win over Garryspillane in Martinstown on Sunday. However, the occasion was marked by deep sadness, as both teams and supporters stood for a minute’s silence in honor of the memory of Florence Hartigan, wife of Limerick legend and club stalwart Bernie. Our deepest sympathy is extended to the Hartigan family at this time. Trailing 0-8 to 0-6 at half-time, the Rathbane men used the strong breeze and the brilliance of Kevin Howard to seize control in the second half. The key moment came in the 39th minute when Niall Herne was fouled en route to goal. Howard buried the resulting penalty and followed up with a free to push Christians four clear.
Garryspillane, led by the accurate Mickey O’Keefe, battled hard and closed the gap to two with five minutes left, but Christians finished strongest. Brian Cleere and Howard landed superb points before the latter closed out the game with two more scores, sealing a place in the last four against Castletown Ballyagran. Howard finished with a stunning tally of 1-11, while at the other end Stephen Barry pulled off two vital saves to deny the Bouncers a goal.
