Old Christians GAA Club Notes:
Junior Hurling Championship Round 5:
Our junior hurlers recorded a heroic win, booking their spot in the knockout stages of the Woodlands House Hotel and Spa County Junior Hurling Championship with a dramatic 3-14 to 1-19 victory over Killeedy in Mick Neville Park on Sunday evening.
In stormy conditions, Glenn Hannon proved the difference, his two long-range goals — one in first-half injury time and another eight minutes after the restart — turning the tide in favour of the Rathbane men. Dean Murray also struck a first-half goal, cancelling out Diarmuid Curtin’s opener for Killeedy.
The West Limerick side looked in control early on, with Cian Magner Flynn unerring from placed balls and Curtin capitalising on a loose free to find the net. They led by five before Murray and then Hannon dragged Christians back into contention, leaving it 1-12 to 2-7 at the break. Killeedy, playing into the breeze, kept the scoreboard moving through Lynch and Magner Flynn, but Hannon’s second goal lifted Christians while points from Dylan Blackhall, Brian Cleere and Kevin Howard edged them in front down the stretch.
Killeedy rallied late, narrowing the gap to one, but Magner Flynn’s last-gasp 65 drifted wide. Relief and joy greeted the final whistle as Old Christians advanced to the quarter-finals.
Scorers: Glenn Hannon 2-0 (2f), Dylan Blackhall 0-5 (3f), Kevin Howard 0-5 (3f), Dean Murray 1-1, Brian Cleere 0-1, Darragh Keane 0-1, Ian Coates 0-1.
